"Database Error: Failed to persist master"

Hoping someone can help! My MacBook Pro battery was low and computer kept flipping off while I was downloading about 300 pics from my canon camera. I can see the pictures in my camera and also have them on Dropbox, but when I try to transfer to Photos on my mac, i get a message "Database Error: failed to persist master" no matter what I try.
These are pics of Humane Society animals for a promotion and anyone who's tried to take animal pictures knows how hard it is! I'm really hoping there is a solution out there- please...
