I'm sure they did show inside as well, still a silly reason to return a laptop IMO, but we can agree to disagree on that. I wrongly assumed that most people would spend more time looking at the actual screen, rather than obsessively analyzing every inch of the pad for prints, but I stand corrected.
You don't need to obsessively analyse every inch of a laptop to notice that it looks dirty, you see it at a glance the moment you open the lid. If you can't, maybe a trip to the optometrist is in order.

If you go look at the one of the many threads that popped up shortly after release, the majority of the people were mostly complaining & uploading pics of the outside lid specifically. People were even complaining about it before the official release, because of fingerprints showing in one of the Youtube reviews. To say it was a very interesting time to be on this forum would be an understatement.
It's easier to to show the marks on the lid because it's a larger, less obstructed surface area. That doesn't mean they aren't showing up elsewhere, those spots just aren't as conducive to capturing on camera. This isn't rocket science.

Knowing that fingerprints appear on an aluminum surface isn't rocket science either, but was apparently a revelation for many, yourself included.

Did you hit reply on the wrong comment or something? I never said I was surprised that fingerprints appear on aluminium, I said I don't see them on my starlight machine. Seeing them is the issue. Seriously, look into that optometrist, it sounds like your eyes might be worse than you think.

For me, it was never about the fingerprints but of how easily marked up it got and showed that bright silver finish underneath. I treated mine like a new born baby and it still got a couple nicks in the finish that I wasn't able to unseemly when it was so new.

I still love the finish, but im too OCD to deal with the marks in the finish lol.

I'm a bit OCD about new things too. It's part of why I almost prefer getting things that are a year or two old. I no longer have the expectation of it looking new, so it doesn't bother me when I see imperfections that are bound to arise with normal use.

For sure, usually why I buy a car thats slightly used instead of brand new as well. I just have a hard time trusting used electronics, too many fakes out there.

Yea electronics are a risky market for Macs. I'd feel at least somewhat confident shopping for one because I know what to look for (my first Mac was used and it was a great purchase), but I understand why a lot of people are apprehensive. I've seen plenty of listings that have red flags such as not listing the year, claiming an Intel model is M1, "minor water damage, just needs a new keyboard," not listing battery health, etc. And that's not even mentioning the iCloud-locked ones that are are more common than they should be.

For all those showing disgust, just remember your notebook has the exact same fingerprints but you can’t see them well enough to wipe them off. So if you really find the Midnight filthy you probably want one.

Its hard to prove a negative. I tried to angle the photo so it shows the most fingerprints. they are there but it just blends as a design and not a turn off at all to me.

Captain's log:

They were wrong. I have now gone 4375 days without wiping my a$$. I have become one with the toilet. Everything just blends together. It's not even itchy anymore. It's not a turn off at all to me.

You are right. That's why I wipe my phone with disinfect wipes at least once a day, and my keyboard and mouse several times a week.
