So my Apple watch has been having battery life problems lately. I took it off the charger at 7 am and it died by 5pm. No workouts or anything. I put it in airplane mode today and after 1 hour it had dropped 10%.

It's running watchos 3. My iPhone is on 10.1 pubic beta 2.

Week before last it had no problem getting through the whole day and then some.

Thoughts?

Try a re-pair. If. You have 'Hey Siri' or the Heart rate monitor active, this will obviously drain the battery. Also, It's been reported Watch OS3 has been impacting battery life sporadically. If you have any third party applications, this could also be a contributor.

have you tried re-pairing? 99% of the time that fixes battery issues for me. usually related to an app update.

shoot my watch battery is fine, it's my iPhone battery that will hardly last 7hrs off the charger (not 7hrs of usage).

I'd also take a look at how many apps you have set to Background App Refresh.
I've got the max, 10. But the battery has only taken a nose dive the last couple days. Maybe since last Friday when I got my 7+?

Separate setting. Apple Watch app on iPhone > General > Background App Refresh.
I see. So I just turned a bunch of them off except for like 3. I also re-paired my Apple watch so we'll see how today goes.

Alright so 3.5 hrs off the charger and it's at 65%. It hasn't been on airplane mode this time.

If it makes any difference, I work in a basement so my phone is on airplane mode with Bluetooth turned on.

Should I just take it to the Apple store? I've got Apple care for my watch.

Your battery is defective.

Okay so today after my watch being off the charger for almost 3 hours, it's at 94%. Which is obviously much better. So when I'm not at work in a basement with my phone in airplane mode, it's fine. Any thoughts?

Aight so went to the Apple store today. They were able to see the battery draining at work(Friday) much faster than when I was at home(Saturday). They tested the battery and it came back fine. So they said they could ship it off to get a deeper look but it may just come back. I opted to just to be sure.

I also mentioned about my washing it from time to time, because he asked about possible water damage. But I don't submerge it, just working it through my hands under the faucet. And it wouldn't explain why it's battery life is fine in one place but not another. And Tim Cook mentioned, when it first came out, that he showered with it and it was fine. So not sure how my little washing would cause this issue.

Anywho, I'll know in a couple days.

May depend on what work you are doing. My battery went down about 20% more than usual yesterday.
I spent the day up & down a ladder - removing curtains & installing blinds.
When I considered that - my arm would have been moving up & down lots as well - so maybe the watch face was activated lots more than normal.
Will see how normal day goes today.

Usually my watch is around 50-55 after a work day but thats with a 1.5 hour workout and a lot off emails throughout the day. I have hey siri off and the SOS function off. Background app refresh is only for specific apps like activity, workout, weather, messages and my email. I have full brightness on too and also hand off. I am really happy with the battery life and get through the entire weekend on one charge because I don't train on the weekends and have no need to answer my work email on the weekends either.
