My replacement iMac has a dead pixel - what is Apple's policy on dead pixels? Should I return it do you think within the 14 days - maybe third time luck....

All Macs has 14 days returning time (including replacements) so just call to Apple and ask for another replacement.

Where is it? If it's not in the centre of screen or it doesn't annoy you, don't change it. I had to go throw it twice and that sucks. My 2nd replacement two dead pixels but both in the bottom of the screen.

Right in the middle - I have two iMacs in the house currently, both as useful as a £1759 paper weight.

Dead pixels are an annoyance, not something that prevents you using the machine. ;)

Anyway, call Apple and they'll make it right.

But when coupled with a random freezing issue I think you see my point.

are there any programs to help you locate dead pixels? i've looked but cant see any. Knowing the apple quality so far, there probably are some, i just cant see them!

The new iMac is even more unreliable than the old one. I am going to ask Apple to take back the 2nd one while I keep the first while they build me a third lol

Seemingly yes. I am about to pull the trigger on a refurbished 24" Imac and I threw a "what if..." to the customer service rep. I said what happens if I have say 3 stuck or dead pixels and say not in the centre of the screen? I then said perhaps this falls into the area of not being deemed by Apple to be a large enough defect. The sales person initially talked about the 10% restocking fee but the customer service individual said they would replace it for me.

I see your point. You hadn't mentioned about the graphics card. ;)

If you can't see any, why look for them?

If one is within the first 14 days of ownership and aspects like dead or stuck pixels is something that is likely to bother one, it is in your interests to have a look for them within this period. You might not, in the first bloom of love for this inanimate object, notice them but, after the 14 day period, you might then see them, given the right image.

Thereafter, you might find them less easy to ignore.

Well no, if you haven't spotted any, it's likely that there aren't any. But some might develop after the 14 days.

i just got a refurbished 24" imac with two dead pixels. i called them and they will ship another one (hopefully with no dead pixels) for the hassle, they will credit 50 bucks and send me ilife 09

i guess the best way to look for a dead pixel is to find a flat black wallpaper.
