Dead Pixels; Can They spread?

I'm thinking of purchasing an iMac and the owner says it has a dead pixel. He says it's VERY HARD to notice it...

My concern is that can something like that "spread"??

It can do - it depends what's caused the dead pixel. If it's just sporadically died, theres little chance of it "spreading". If it's been caused by a manufacturing defect, then there's every possibility it will.

There's no way of telling.
