I seem to have a pixel that’s black on a white, black, or green background, but blue on a blue background and red on a red background.

Any thoughts on how to better diagnose or fix this?

Is it worth hauling the thing to the Apple Store? Will they even consider fixing it or would it be considered acceptable?

Would it be any different if I took it in a few months from now?

I'd just contact Apple support by phone and have the tech look at your URL post here with images to discuss what can be done.

You should call Apple Support first and ask. In the past, Apple does not change out a display or an entire Mac for one dead or stuck pixel. Now especially with most Apple Stores closed it may be difficult to have them look at it.

You can try to repair the dead or stuck pixel yourself by following the instructions given here:

However, if your iMac is still covered by Apple Care the best advice is to find out first what Apple will do.

Thanks, I ran that pixel fixer tool for about two hours and it didn’t do anything. I suspect this is actually a dead green sub pixel.

I do have the AppleCare+ and the computer is still in its first year. I think I may wait this one out as it’s somewhat ignorable and take it in to a Genius Bar when things start opening back up.

Hopefully the stores will begin to open again when we get the population vaccinated. In the meantime, keep your eye on the display to make sure no other pixels decide to die.
