Dead superdrive?

Only since yesterday, my built in superdrive on my eMac has been spitting out discs within a few seconds of inserting them. All types too, even blank ones. Is my drive dead?

The Optical Drive may be shot/damaged.

Is there some sort of diagnostics I can run myself to see if that's the case?

Reboot and hold Option at the chime. You'll get a screen showing your hard drive. Then insert your OS X install disk and click the little reload button, and see whether it detects the CD. That should determine whether it's a software or hardware issue.
