An area in the lower part of my screen just went dead to the touch. It's across the whole width of the screen, roughly encompassing the bottom line of icons above the dock on the home screen.

The rest of the screen, and all other functions work fine. This is a June 29 phone; never hacked or jailbroken; and updated as the newer firmware was made available.

I'm going to take it back to Apple and see what they say.

They replaced it. Apparently, condensation can sometimes get in between two of the 7 layers of the touch screen, and short it out.

What's cool, apart form the no nonsense, no hassle swap out, is that they do a quick set-up in the store, so you can use the phone in a limited way until you get home to restore all your stuff.
