The Mac Mini moves a couple thousand units a month at best. That it still exists at all is surprising, much less they bothered to update it in 2018 when Intel got around to offering new CPUs that fit it.

On the plus side, that implies that when Intel gets around to again offering new CPUs that fit it, it will see another update.

Without a decent GPU, etc. you are correct. It's a shame; such a waste...

I have a question about this - I can't tell a difference between the B&H one and the Apple refurbished one, but the MSRP is vastly different (1099 vs 899). Anyone have any idea why?

Would be a way better value to buy the new MacBook air and a dock station rather than the Mac mini

The 2018 Mac Mini for $899 at B&H and the 2020 Mac Mini at Apple for $1099 are exactly the same model. So one of two things happened:

  1. B&H cut the price to $899 to move their 2018 inventory or;
  2. Apple is giving B&H a rebate to allow them to lower the price to $899 to move their 2018 inventory
