What’s the point of the AppleTV box again, now that you can have the AppleTV app on a smart TV?

Not exposing your "smart" TV to the internet, for starters.

The Apple TV app is used to access Apple TV content, and does not replace the hardware functions of a proper Apple TV (home share, airplay, other apps, etc.).

$9 discount

I can finally afford that Firehouse sub I've had my eye on.

Actually their large sub is closer to $13... but I'm keeping this comment for comic effect...

🤣
I bet you waited a month for that sub. That big hot appletv sale gave you partial lunch

There’s less and less of a reason to keep buying new hardware when you’ve already bought all this stuff before and saw updates remove functionality, cripple it and make it useless. Why on earth would I want to keep repeating that experience? I don’t.

I have no idea what you’re talking about. What digital audio output did they cut?
Optical audio out. Important if you want to connect to an audio system (I have an old audio-only 5.1 System that doesn’t have HDMI).

There is no optical audio out on the generation 1 Apple TV 4K, the outputs of the generation 2 Apple TV 4K are exactly the same. Both have 3 ports: power, HDMI, Ethernet. Sounds like it’s time to upgrade your audio system to me.

Hm. I never said there was?
But on the Apple TV that I have, there is.
I don’t think I will upgrade my audio system, but thanks.
