Amazon today is offering Apple's 512GB M1 MacBook Air for $1,172.92, down from $1,249.00. This is one of the first notable discounts on the new MacBook Air since earlier in the year, and it's currently the best price available online among the major Apple resellers. It's being sold by Expercom on Amazon.

You can get the notebook at this price in Silver, but the other colors are coming in around the same amount. Gold is available for $1,174.92 and Space Gray is available for $1,179.00. The lowest price we've ever seen on this model was around $1,149 late last year, but we've yet to see a return to that amount in 2021.

Apple updated the MacBook Air in November 2020 with its new M1 chip, which is the first Apple-designed Arm-based chip. M1 chips replace the prior Intel chips, and bring major speed and efficiency improvements. The new models feature a 13-inch Retina display with slim bezels and a large Force Touch Trackpad.

I have this version of the MBA: it is simply brilliant and I happily paid full price back in December. It’s mostly an internet/media consumption device with just a bit of work done with photos and text. I have had a LOT macs and Apple laptops over the years and this thing is simply sensational. I wish for a bit more max screen brightness, but that’s about it.

I’ll be waiting out the next time. Macs have become so comodotized like PCs, getting one is not hard anymore and usually waiting can save you some money.

Surprised at the deal given they are in such tight supply. Local store doesn't have any and online orders are at least a week out.

An Amazon warehouse worker in the UK would have to work for 4 weeks to afford that.

I've worked some crappy jobs in my time just to get by. Sometimes two of them usually 65+ hours a week.

Some included construction in a former refinery (filthy, disgusting work, with exposure to toxic petrochemicals) others in retail, worked at a fast food joint for a while, and at a seafood retailer.

When I was working ALL these jobs, my main concern was to keep a roof over my head and my bills paid. They weren't the best times of my life, but I did what I had to do. When I was working these jobs (despite having a full time job) a new laptop was never in the cards for me. Things like paying for housing, clothing, food, transportation, insurance all took precedence.

Even today, working a half decent FT job, after paying for my basics I couldn't see taking all my "disposable" income in one month to buy a laptop. I have to be ready for unexpected things like illness, car repairs, house repairs, etc.

So, even if I took ALL the income I have over the course of 4 weeks that didn't go into keeping me and my spouse warm and fed, I still couldn't plunk down for a $1300 laptop just for craps and laughs. I would have to save for it for several months, and maybe work a side job to make it happen.

Not EVERYONE is at the station in life where they can just drop $1300 for a laptop in one month.

If you're making roughly 7 Pounds/hr your focus in life probably should be elsewhere, not on a new lap top...
