Apple's AirPods Max over-ear headphones have returned to their lowest-ever price on Amazon, priced at $429.00, down from $549.00. In a rare occurrence, we're tracking every single color of the AirPods Max at this price, and all are in stock and ready to ship out today.

Amazon Prime members can receive the AirPods Max as soon as this Wednesday, September 14, while free delivery for everyone else in the United States has an estimated arrival day of September 17. As of writing, only Amazon is offering this steep of a discount on the AirPods Max.

AirPods Max feature Active Noise Cancellation technology and the same Transparency mode, Adaptive EQ, and spatial audio features that are in the AirPods Pro. For charging, the headphones come with a Smart Case made out of a soft material that puts AirPods Max in an ultra low-power state to preserve battery charge when not in use.

We track sales for every model of the AirPods in our Best AirPods Deals guide, so be sure to bookmark that page while you shop around for the wireless headphones.

It's going on a couple weeks at this price, except for the Space Gray, which finally dropped around the time of the event last week. I bought the Blue on 8/31 and got an additional 5% off and extra year warranty using my Amazon Visa. I could have got two years extra warranty if I had bought from them with my Costco Visa, which I found out about later. BTW, I guess Costco felt the heat last week as they dropped the price to 429.99 from 479.99. I did pre-order the Pro 2 from Costco and got a $10 discount.

Is this perhaps an indicator of new AirPods Max popping up at the late fall event that has become common place?
No.
Only thing that’s been rumourd is the exact same headphones with new color options. That’s it, if there’s any update this year, that’ll be it.
There’s really nothing for them to add, at least until next year when all of their products switch over to USBC.
That’s when we’ll see the update, late 2023 at the earliest, more likely probably sometime in 2024.
Important to remember that Apple on average updates their headphones about every three years, with the more expensive models being updated less frequently than the standard, and the AirPods Max aren’t even a full two years old yet.

This price is still unfathomable.
Yeah, I pushed hard to try and justify these for myself and couldn’t do it. Ended up with Bose QC45 and it does everything I need without extra dongles. Plus loads longer battery life. I did also get the new APP2, though, because the form factor there has its place, too.

I'd love to get a pair of these however, the price is way too much. I think these would be on par with Bose QC 35 or Sony MX4 or that range of headphones. As such, should be in the $300 range or so to be more palatable, to me at least.

I never understood why Apple did not place a brand logo on these. Just a plain unmarked headphone, I am shocked they did not put a small Apple Logo on each ear piece.

My launch day pair is still going strong almost two years later. One of the best Apple product's I have bought in a long time. I do wish I would have waited a little bit for a discount, but I have no regrets.

I really want a pair of these. Hesitant partly due to wondering if a refresh might be around the corner, but then again, the wildly-more-popular Pros just went 3 years without a refresh...

“There’s really nothing for them to add…”

I thought that they don’t support lossless audio?

I swear I want a pair, but mostly to replace my AirPods Pro, because I keep loosing in my house the stupid pill case... but I just can't move my finger to pick them up even at $429. I wish these were $300 even $350, I would pick them up in a heartbeat... but at $529 forget it, and at $429 it entices me but nah, I couldn't come up with a believable reason to my wife of why I need $400 headphones... lol.

When using the wire, they can play 24 bit 48 killer hertz files.
Apple technically won’t call it lossless because it converts from analog to digital back to analog, so there might be some loss, but it’s still more “Lossless” then over Bluetooth, and it’s still higher quality than a CD.
As for lossless over wireless, not a chance. They didn’t do it with the pros, they aren’t going to do it with the max for the same reasons.
Too much latency, too much unreliability, too much battery loss, not worth it.

I would've switched over to one by now if there were a trade-in offer that pays me ~$200 for my current Bose 700. Everywhere I know gives me a $80 quote which is obscene & I can't justify spending that much for a not so substantial improvement

I tried them but didn’t like the air tight feel, I hope the new ones have a pressure release.

You could probably get much closer to $200 on eBay pretty easily.

I'm sorry, but the price of this thing needs to be lower, $300 Max I say. They are nice, don't get me wrong. No matter how many times I go to the Apple store, I always have to go try them out.
I don't even use the APM with my Apple products, and I've owned all of Sony WH-1000XM4, Bose 700, and the new Sennheiser Momentum 4. I use them 8+ hours a day. In terms of sound quality, ANC, control methods, idiosyncratic annoyances, and comfort, those others are also vastly overpriced if the APM should be $300 as you say. I have parametric EQ on both my PC (Bluetooth) and wired setup, so I've been able to get the best sound quality. The APM is the best of them. I do wish the battery life was better, and the $35 cable is ridiculous, but I find it worth the extra $150 or so at these levels. The stupid case doesn't even bother me; I use them exclusively at home, and I have a place for storing and charging them that was perfect.

My wife has a Sony mx4 and it is a muddy mess. I tried the AirPods max at Best Buy and it sounded quite a bit better. However I am sticking with my open back sennheiser for now.
