Yeah, I pushed hard to try and justify these for myself and couldn’t do it. Ended up with Bose QC45 and it does everything I need without extra dongles. Plus loads longer battery life. I did also get the new APP2, though, because the form factor there has its place, too.

The AirPods are well built and a cool product. But I ended up with the same as you. The Bose sound about as good, way more comfortable IMO, and actually have a case.

I really want a pair of these. Hesitant partly due to wondering if a refresh might be around the corner, but then again, the wildly-more-popular Pros just went 3 years without a refresh...
They will have to atleast be updated with USB come 2024 due to EU mandates.

I never understood why Apple did not place a brand logo on these. Just a plain unmarked headphone, I am shocked they did not put a small Apple Logo on each ear piece.
Yea nothing like ruining fine design with free advertising or the need to remind you that your $500 headphones aren't Xiaomi.

One has to believe there's gonna be an H2 chip upgrade at some point.

This is kind of what I am waiting for as I would like BT 5.3, but decided to pick up a pair to at least try out since I have ordered so much other new stuff (IPPM14, APP2, Gold SS AW8).

I do have a pair of Beats Studio3 that still work fine for me when I want something with more performance, though the W1 SIP in it is only Bluetooth 4.1 so going to the APM will be an improvement.

I swear I want a pair, but mostly to replace my AirPods Pro, because I keep loosing in my house the stupid pill case... but I just can't move my finger to pick them up even at $429. I wish these were $300 even $350, I would pick them up in a heartbeat... but at $529 forget it, and at $429 it entices me but nah, I couldn't come up with a believable reason to my wife of why I need $400 headphones... lol.

Buy them for her so she doesn't have to hear nagging about saving $79 dollars over thousands of hours of musical enjoyment. Or get them from Woot at 370. Amazon has used ones too.

And yet they're still overpriced for what they are.
Hoping to see some big improvements in the next model that justify their exorbitant MSRP, like true lossless at the very least when wired, a case that isn't a cheap looking bra/handbag and an actual on/off button.

My launch day pair is still going strong almost two years later. One of the best Apple product's I have bought in a long time. I do wish I would have waited a little bit for a discount, but I have no regrets.
Curious if you've noticed any battery degradation over that time. Do they seem to still last as long on a full charge?

Amazon just dropped my pair off and have to admit I am impressed. They fit my head quite comfortably and sound better than my Beats Studio3.

Is this perhaps an indicator of new AirPods Max popping up at the late fall event that has become common place?
I hope so. The AirPods Max seriously need a better case, way better battery life (20 hours is not enough when the rest of the competition gives you 30+ hours) , h2 chip, adaptive transparency, water resistant (this might help with the condensation issues), the U1 chip and maybe interchangeable left and right ear cups. After the AirPods Pro 2nd gen, the AirPods max are lacking (obviously) even more new features. Imo the max need an update just so on the spec level it can be better than the cheaper AirPods Pro 2nd gen. And some form of MagSafe charging would be great.

yeah same here. And the addition of new features on the AirPods Pro second gen make me even more hesitant to pick these up. All of the leaks have said they haven't heard anything other than possible new colours so it could be another a year or maybe even longer until apple decides to update these. If what Gary geaves, vp of acoustics said at whathifi of getting more bandwidth is true (and he refused to elaborate further), then I feel like apple might have more tricks up its sleeve for the AirPods max.
