This product is waiting for its "iPad 2 (2011) moment" where it gets a functional case, proper on and off button, and a $399 starting price to better compete with others in the market.

for the on-off button, surely they could just let you hold the existing button for 15 seconds or something? Don't really need to change the actual headphone at all?

A revised case and lower price could be done also without even changing the headphone itself.

Definitely a lower price would help adoption rate too. Or maybe not, Homepod OG was discontinued even though it was discounted almost continuously by various retailers.

I'd like to get a pair, but I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger even at $450. I do enjoy my AirPods Pro, but get sick of having in-ear headphones on all the time. I'll probably cave.
Yep, I was feeling the same way. I was thinking I'd buy them when they were available for $350-$375. When my boss offered me the reward certificate, I knew that's what I wanted to use it for. There would be some things I would change about them, but nitpicking really. They are worth what I paid for sure.

These are brilliant and a significant step up in sound quality from the AirPods Pro. Yes, a bit expensive, but worth every penny, even at full retail price. I’ve had them for over a year now and they’re still the best pair of headphones I’ve ever had. Remarkably durable as well. They still look brand new and I use them almost every day.

Micro Center has then $110 off. Cheaper, you can get them today if you have a Micro Center near you, and you’re not supporting Jeff Bezos.

Best Buy will likely price match if you have a Micro Center near you.

How is this when used with Facetime Audio?
My experience, I use it 100% for zoom, facetime calls, voice calls, pretty much all calls and some youtube videos, and I have yet to have any kind of audio loss or delay (but I am getting old so I may just be slow to realize it :-D )

Honestly these are great headphones. I know they are expensive but for what you're getting they are worth it. The case sucks but other than that they are fantastic.

I've heard from multiple sources that all RND for AirPods Max has halted and this is probably the model that we'll be stuck with for a long time.

I'll wait for a true surround sound headphone that will work with the Apple TV 4K. Not some simulated spatial sound so when I move my head the sound stays in the middle. I may be waiting a very long time, I get it, but that is what I really would like to see (and hear).

Case is the most functional I’ve ever used (never used the cases that came with my other OTE headphones), on/off button not needed, and while I would love a lower price, the build quality and sound quality deserves a $100-$150 premium over Sony and Bose. $200 is pushing it.

I’ve had mine for less than 24 hours and I am thoroughly impressed. The only other good pair of headphones I can compare them to would be my Bowers & Wilkins P7’s. The APM’s honestly have the upper hand because not only do they sound just as good but they also sync up with my iPhone, iPad, and MBP seamlessly. I love them. Money well spent. Anyone who is on the fence and reading this - buy them! Totally worth it ?

Wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve said since launch that these are the equivalent of the HomePod. Really great sound but at a price point most consumers simply aren’t willing to entertain. So why drop the $$$ only to find out Apple will be discontinuing them? I’m tempted but that price point would have to be no higher than $299 or slightly above. I love my AirPods and AirPods Pro but I don’t love losing an ear piece into the vortex known as my couches. I’d like a pair of high quality but at least semi-reasonably priced over-the-ear headphones that are a part of the Apple ecosystem but I’m not dropping more than around $299 in order to get them.

If anyone has these and HomePods, can you compare the sound characteristics? I've found I like the audio out of my paired HomePods significantly more than my Sonos speakers.
We love the paired OG HomePods we own, they are just amazing. The AirPod Max is by far my preferred set of headphones for listening pleasure, however they are not equal to the experience of the OG HomePod. The AirPo Max is far superior with noise cancellation and spatial sound effects are nicer, but the OG paired HomePods have a better kick and a larger soundstage (at least in our space) and we use them to dance to once each week. I love them both, paid full price for them all, and have no regrets.

Whoever buys these headphone at this price range is just mad (or an absolute fanboy).

Imagine paying $500 for headphone with garbage sound profile that can’t even output accurate trebles.
