Check that the mic ports are clean. If they get clogged they can't "hear" the noise in order to output the corresponding waveform that cancels it out.
Do you have a link/guide? They've been cleaned, but I'm willing to give it another shot. I've also taken them into the Apple Store where they proceeded to tell me they are "working 100% fine". They're also a few years old already, so I'm not as annoyed as I would be if I felt like they were still new.
 
I already have the lightning ones, but since I have the 15, I want the USB-C version :rolleyes:

Ugh that is annoying. If you’ve already taken a pass at cleaning them then maybe that wasn’t it. Just threw it out in case it was an easy fix.
