Apple's 16-inch MacBook Pro (M1 Pro, 16-core GPU, 512GB SSD) has dropped to $2,249.00 on Amazon, down from $2,499.00. This deal is available in both colors, but Silver is beginning to see reduced stock so order soon if you're interested.

At $250 off, this is the lowest price we've ever seen on this model of the 16-inch MacBook Pro, which Apple updated last year. We typically track deals on the 14-inch model of the 2021 MacBook Pro more often, and this is one of the first notable markdowns on the 16-inch notebook in a few months.

These MacBook Pro models feature an all-new design for Apple's notebook lineup, including more ports, the removal of the Touch Bar, the reintroduction of MagSafe, a slimmer bezel, a mini-LED display, and M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. Although there's no Touch Bar, there is still Touch ID support with the Touch ID button on the keyboard.

Our full Deals Roundup has more information on the latest Apple-related sales and bargains.

Seems like the heavy discounts have started really early with the new MBP. You can even get them in the Apple refurbished store all day long. Would be interested in knowing if most consumers find them unnecessary, too expensive, or both.

It’s a lot of computing for most people.

Yeah. I really just want a 16" MBP for my bad eyes without an M1 Max/Pro. It's crazy to go from a MBA $999 to 16" starting at $2500 just because I need a larger screen (I'm a contractor so I cannot depend on having a large external display in random network closets and desks where I work).

I think they could re-introduce the old generation 16 inch form factor with the new SoC for those who just want a larger display.

I really hope those 15 inch MacBook Air rumors are true.

I know it's always tricky to make predictions about what Apple will do, but I feel confident saying they won't do that—the old 16" MPB case is far too thick and heavy for an Air-class SoC. Same for the 15" MPB case that preceeded it. If they do introduce a 15" Air, it will take advantage of the low TDP of the M-class chips to be quite thin and light.

I just purchased a MBP 14" and within 24 hours found it severely underperforming. After talking with Apple support we realized I am hosed because 16 GB of ram is not sufficient for use of all the stock apps, and you can't just buy a Mac with more ram.

"you can't just buy a Mac with more ram". No idea why you're saying this, because Apple's website clearly allows you to buy a 14" MBP with 16, 32, or 64 GB RAM (though to get the 64 GB you need to pay an add'l. $200 for the upgrade from the Pro to the binned Max).

Maybe what you meant is that once you've purchased with a specific amount of RAM, you can't upgrade. But you're still certainly not hosed, since you said you found the issue within 24 hours, so you're within the window to return it and buy one with more RAM.

This looks like a Mac Studio, is that correct? It doesn't matter because all models have the same issue. You can't just buy a Mac with more ram...

Delivery times are so far out that if you buy a Mac and discover the RAM is insufficient you have to do a return and then wait, months, to try another one.

You can get 32Gb or 64Gb MacBook Pros on Apples site.

Yeah, the MBPs don't come in 8/256GB configurations so you're going from $1449 for the 16/512GB Air to $2499 for the 16/512GB 16" MBP.

The 14 and 16 inch Mac Book Pros are still backordered 6 weeks. That indicates super high demand.

I have the 16 inch for work and I will say after using a MacBook Air as my daily driver for a year I'm leaning towards getting a 14 inch MBP for my personal use. 16 inches just feels huge now.

I think by next year you will get something close. Either a 15/16 inch "super" Air, or cheaper MBP.

I just got a 16Gb 1TB 8 Core MBP 14" refurb because overnight shipping was available. With the exception of the ram being insufficient, it's a great machine. If a 64GB 2TB M1 was available I would have gotten that.

Damn, I tried to correct my post before you could catch me. Yes, I didn't realize how backordered they were when I snarked you.
I hesitated on a refurbished 32 GB MBP 14" and now they are all gone. Now I check every single day in the hopes that I can order a replacement before my return period is up.

Maybe from Apple and for delivery but you can get them same day pickup on base models all day long and from all types of authorized dealers.

Do you have every single app open all at once ha

Nope, that's the 14" MBP. Ship times are 6-8 weeks.

Um, your screenshot shows 7 to 8 weeks....

Every app I am using: Mail, Safari, DEVONthink, iMovie, and Messenger.
Ah, right, sorry. I'll correct my post. Still, in your original post, you should have said something like "ship times on MBP's with >16 GB RAM are 6-8 weeks", not "you can't buy an MBP with > 16 GB RAM", since I hope you can see how the latter is misleading and creates confusion. If I saw the latter in a headline, I would think it was clickbait.

Being accurate also enables us to give you more direct help. If I'd known from the start your issue was ship times from Apple, I would have suggested you check stock from reliable Apple retailers, like B&H photo. Here's a 14" MBP M1 Pro with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD, in stock:

HA. Well I did say you can't *just* buy a Mac with more ram... but I can see where the confusion arose.
