Amazon today has a pair of discounts on Apple's 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro, marking the first time since April that we've seen notable markdowns on the notebooks. Only the 16-inch models are being discounted on Amazon as of writing.

You can get the 10-Core M1 Pro, 512GB 16-inch MacBook Pro for $2,299.00, down from $2,499.00. Additionally, the 10-Core M1 Pro, 1TB 16-inch MacBook Pro is on sale for $2,499.00, down from $2,699.00. Both sales are available in Silver and Space Gray, and in stock now.

Apple introduced the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in October 2021, equipped with mini-LED displays, more ports than the previous generation, up to 64GB memory, and more powerful Apple silicon chips, and the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. Both models have faced shortages throughout 2022, so we haven't been tracking as many deals on them, but we're now starting to see restocks happen across various retailers.

More 16" deals vs. 14"... Waiting for the 14" base deal but might have missed the boat.

They come and go. Just be patience. I got my 14" MBP M1 Pro 16GB/1TB from Best Buy on March 14th and paid $2250 + got a $50 Best Buy gift card. Amazon had the same deal at that time. I got it from Best Buy because they were also offering 24 months free interest financing, which is very rare with Apple products sold by Best Buy.

All these discounts at third party sellers but I’m stuck waiting on the refurbished models to come back in stock so I can use my nearly $1000 in Apple trade-in credit 😭 feels like I’ll be waiting forever.

The shortage is pretty strange. Apple clearly overestimated the number of "Pro" machines they could sell with only 16GB of RAM.
I'm a UX Designer/Web Accessibility consultant and hobbiest photographer with a 26MP Fuji and while i sometimes get yellow memory pressure, nothing wrong with yellow, I almost never get red. Even while creating videos in Animate it's almost always green. I'm glad I didn't stump up for 32GB RAM.

the edu discount is now standard on Amazon. I got the 16gb/1tb MBP 16" for the same $2499 last year. Love it

I use virtualization for my work, so at 16GB RAM I'm swapping all the time. The SSD is fast enough that I'm sure you can get away with thrashing it like that for your lifetime with the machine, but I don't really see the point of buying an expensive high-performance machine for things like its unified memory architecture if I'm just swapping all the time. Otherwise I might as well stick with my previous Pro.

That's thing, I'm not using virtual machines and swapping all the time.

If I had greater RAM needs I would have upgraded to 32GB, but I don't so I didn't.

My real-world use supports my decision to stay with 16GB RAM.
