Yes, you can only see the motion issue in portrait, a lot of us aren't bothered by it. If your watching streaming content, you be in landscape anyway as the speakers are on each side that way.

I almost always hold my mini 5 in landscape, so if I got the 6 I wouldn't worry about the jelly (unless I'm eating peanut butter on the side). My eyes aren't what they used to be, so the mini in landscape gives a nice big view when reading emails, surfing, social media, etc. Whenever I want to show my wife something and I hand it to her, the first thing she does it shift it to portrait. So she would hate the jelly scrolling, but she has her own ipad pro. It's just funny how different people use the devices differently.

How is this for taking notes in meetings? I need something small and easy to carry around for work. I was thinking of the base ipad but this looks so much better…

I used an earlier mini for that a number of years ago (at least 5), and it was great, until the company cracked down on personal devices holding work content, and I had to go back old school to a notebook. But since then, they claim to have gotten a LOT better with handwriting recognition and such. I was using it as an electronic notebook that organized notes well across multiple projects for my own purposes -- now if it's better at actually converting that handwriting to text for sharing with others, that's even better use.

Looks like the deal is dead for all but a few colors of the 64GB model.

At MSRP, I'm hesitant to buy this vs. an iPad Air for only $100 more - not only are you getting the bigger screen, but you're also upgrading from an A-series chip to an M1. I really hope Apple pushes a quiet upgrade during their rumored October event and bump up the iPad Mini to an M1/M2, but knowing Apple's history with the iPad Mini's upgrade cycle I'm not optimistic.
