Today Amazon has a pair of discounts on Apple's iPad mini 6 and 2021 iPad, both of which have hit some of the best prices we've seen so far this year. As of writing, these deals are only available on Amazon, and most of the tablets are in stock and available to deliver by this weekend. Additionally, we're tracking a return of the best price on Apple Pencil 2.

iPad mini 6

Starting with the iPad mini 6, you can get all four colors of the 64GB Wi-Fi tablet for $399.99, down from $499.00. We haven't tracked this best-ever price on the iPad mini 6 since March, so it's a great opportunity for anyone who's been waiting to pick up the 8.3-inch miniature tablet at a good discount.

Similarly, the 256GB Wi-Fi iPad mini 6 has hit an all-time low price of $539.99, down from $649.00. This one is also available in all four colors, but you'll need to add the tablet to your cart and head to checkout in order to see the fully discounted price.

Moving to cellular models, the 64GB cellular iPad mini 6 is available for $549.99, down from $649.00. The 256GB cellular iPad mini 6 is down to $629.00, from $799.00. Both of these are record low prices and only available on Amazon right now.

iPad (2021)

For the 9th generation iPad, prices start at $269.99 for the 64GB Wi-Fi iPad, down from $329.00. This one is a second-best price on the iPad, but we haven't tracked all-time low prices for a few months and this is still a solid discount.

The 256GB Wi-Fi iPad is on sale for $399.00, down from $479.00, which is also a second-best price and just about $10 higher than the record low. Both tablets are available in Silver and Space Gray at these prices.

Apple Pencil 2

Lastly, the Apple Pencil 2 has returned to its best-ever price of $89.00 on Amazon, down from $129.00. The Apple Pencil 2 is compatible with the following iPads: iPad mini (6th generation), iPad Air (4th generation and later), 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation and later), and 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation and later). The second generation Apple Pencil can also magnetically attach and pair to the iPad Pro, iPad mini, and iPad Air.

I really do expect the IPad mini 7 with a better 90hz panel this year.

Also anticipate base model will be 128 GB storage with 8 GB Ram using a M2. Likely sometime in Fall.

You’re joking, right?
Improved 60 Hz LCD display, A17 and may be a slight camera bump, but that’s it.
Unless you’re suggesting they’re about to double this things price from like $500 to closer to $800, but there’s absolutely no way the mini gets 120 Hz and an M2 before the air does.
The iPad mini is Apple second most popular tablet, only below the ninth generation iPad. There’s a reason for that, and it has nothing to do with the displays refresh rate.
It’s because you can get it for $400 at places like Amazon, where it’s only $60 more expensive than the baseline iPad.

It been a Mini gets stuff before Air and then visa versa and now it’s mini turn again. The change to a M1 is a year old, so would be a M2, as the A17 is meant for IPhone 15. I did not mention pro motion just a faster refresh rate LCD panel.

Tempted by an iPad Mini but hoping for an M1 for OS options maybe even at my desk / keyboard for more flexibility.

I'll hope for a 7 right with you but have near zero expectations of it arriving this year. My gut guess is next year at best and I wouldn't be surprised if it is delayed to 2025.

The iPad mini is 2 years old in Sept. original announcement.
The display seems the priority to update. Otherwise it would have sold a lot more then now. We shall see if Apple is more aggressive now or not. ;)

Not going to happen.
First of all, Apple has never, not once, made a 90 Hz display. I don’t expect them to start now.
Secondly, the iPad mini has the A15, a much more efficient chip than the M2. Given that the iPad mini is super small, efficiency is everything. You’re not gonna get 10 hour battery life on an iPad mini with an M2 compared to an A15 or an A17, you’re just not. They would either have to bulk up the battery (and buy extension the iPad) by a lot, or severely underclock and restrict the M2. Remember, the current A15 already has a GPU core disabled on the current Mini, it’s already losing to the latest iPhones. It’s absolutely not going to get the M2.
Lastly, there has been no point in history where the iPad Mini has had internal advantages over the iPad Air.
The second generation iPad mini, and the first generation iPad Air were introduced at the same time in 2013… And shared identical specifications. Same CPU, same GPU, same screen resolution, same everything.
The next year, the iPad Air 2 got the A8X, the mini3 stuck with the A7.
Everything about the iPad mini 3 was identical to the previous, except for touch ID. So again, the air was ahead.
In 2015, the iPad mini got updated to the A8 (not the A8X) and a couple bumps here and there, but it still lags behind the air. And then both weren’t touched for four years.
When they both got updated at the same time in 2019, they again got identical specifications. The A12, pencil support, and improved storage options.
The next year, the mini got nothing, and the air got updated to the home buttonless design, the A14 and USB-C.
The mini later got all of this and the A15, while the air got the M1.
So again, either the specs have been identical, or the air has been ahead.
There is absolutely no historical precedent to what you are saying.
No iPhone, iPad or Mac has ever gotten 90 Hz, the iPad Air has never gotten a worse processor than the mini, and the iPad mini has always used mobile chips.

Again, it’s the second best selling iPad. The only thing it’s losing to is the cheaper iPad.
The iPads that have better displays and better processors… That’s not translating to more sales.

I have 3 iPads all different sizes. My mini 6 is my most used. Such a convenient sized iPad for weight, size, travel, GPS, communications and mostly consumption. I will welcome any advancement and will buy it on the spot!

Always tempted to pick up a mini when this sale hits, but I'm in the camp of holding out for the 7th gen with hopes for a much better screen.

Apple doesn't make displays parts, they have other manufacturers make parts for them.
The reference was to the fact that a 90hz OLED screen by Samsung same dimensions was similar to a 120HZ Promotion LCD panel from a couple of years ago. They determined that visually the refresh rate reducing motion artifacts was equivalent. But seriously you just need a solution to raise the refresh rate a bit to end all that jelly motion problem.

I don’t think they’ll go 4 years between updates again for the mini. I reckon they’ll stick to 2-3 years.

2019 mini 5
2021 mini 6

I’m hoping for every 2 years with a RAM upgrade this year. Safari reloads a ton on my mini 6.

I literally just price-matched an iPad mini at Best Buy against the $469 price Amazon had last week. Does anyone know or have experience with Best Buy price matching a lower price after purchase (still within return window).
