Good point of view. I know contacting Amazon won't do anything about a price drop. I bet a lot of people don't know they can reach out to the seller directly. I didn't really realize it until just recently, and I've had Prime for many years.
You're correct; Amazon doesn't offer a price guarantee since prices change so often, most notably when different sellers take over the Featured Offer/Buy Box. That isn't even getting in to the part where not everyone may be seeing the same Featured Offer depending on where they are located. 👀

3rd party sellers get a bad rap (deservedly so in some cases), but there are also a lot of good ones out there. This price match trick is one to keep in the shopping tool box. These are our general guidelines to price matching on Amazon but other sellers may be different: 1) Price match Amazon only, not 3rd party sellers and 2) In stock.

Semi-related, but 3rd party Amazon sellers are required to reply to any message within 24 hours. Less than 12 is expected. Taking longer than 24 hrs is a warning sign. Or, as I personally experienced over the weekend: getting an auto-reply within the 24 hr period to satisfy the Amazon bots but taking longer than a day to actually reply.

Um, one of the questions...

In all seriousness, this is probably the best time to get a new Apple Pencil for me since mine snapped.

Hmmm I don’t know which is better the  pencil or the much cheaper Logitech crayon.
I'm sure there is bound to be a video comparison including those two. IMO one of the main reasons to select the Pencil 1 was the convenient of iPad charging, but now charging the Pencil 1 is not easier than its competition. They also have different shapes in hand so you may prefer one to the other.

As a seller, this situation (return started due to an item going on sale soon after a customer purchase) is less than ideal...but I get it too being afraid they may miss the deal if the seller doesn't respond quickly enough (or says no). Personally, I recommend reaching out to the seller/company you purchased from first to see if they'll price match. Saves the hassle of the return and the customer gets the better price. Win win.

Also gives some insight in to their customer service for any future needs. []Good companies will price match due to the mentioned win win scenario. It is a small gesture, but such a win with customer satisfaction. I occasionally see return reasons on Amazon being 'Better Price Available' but never heard from that customer. Likely would have refunded the difference with no problem had they just reached out.

Amazon explicitly does not support this anymore. I tried recently and they told me Amazon does not price match, even on Amazon, and would not refund me any difference for a product going on sale. They specifically said it was in the return window so I was free to return it and purchase another at the lower price.

My reasoning was the same as yours but apparently Amazon doesn’t agree anymore.

Get a Pencil if you have an iPad. You can use it to edit pictures on a Mac (Photos app on Mac...choose edit...select markup...right-side of markup menu bar should be option to select your iPad). 🤨
Way cool! Totally thanks for that, I had no clue. It works with the iPhone Pro too. Hella useful!
