I wish they would reduce the price of the Ultra watch bands. I have both the green alpine loop and the midnight ocean loop. Alpine loop has some fraying that I've cut off but I think it might fray a bit more. For $100, it's not lasting as long as I'd like!

Or you know, wait about 4 more months, because there’s a new one coming out soon.

I really wish I could find a reason to buy it. Better battery life of course, but my Series 8 lasts all day. And I love the SS. And the weight just makes it feel valuable, SS not Ultra

I have the series 7 (SS) and was trying to find a reason to want the ultra, but it's just not worth it. With fast charging, the 7's battery life is fine. At this point, I don't see a point in upgrading unless a new watch has better sensors and/or has more health tracking capabilities.

I'm striving to do a mass upgrade of all my Apple devices in the same year, that includes iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. So, the third iteration of the Apple Watch Ultra is looking like my destination in 2025.

That thing sure looks fugly. If they made it in Space Black or even graphite, I would get it. But silver is not a color I buy Apple products in, ever, these days. It’s just so drab and generic.

I'm curious to know why you want a reason to buy the Ultra then.

For me, the primary reason I upgraded from my Series 4 was 1) for the battery life, and 2) for the additional Action button. While I enjoy the other features of the Ultra watch, I also don't care too much about them. The Action button for me was really the major upgrade. Yeah, it does seem silly to pay so much just for an extra button -- I admit to that.

Knockoff Ultra bands are about $3 each on Amazon and are basically indistinguishable from the $100 Apple bands. When I say "indistinguishable" I mean that I'm not sure I could figure out which one is the real one in my pile of bands.

U think apple is going to iterate on the ultra that quick? I’m guessing it will be September 2024 before a new ultra comes out
Well, Apple has to update the processor to match the series 9 which will have new processor, from rumor wise. It would be weird for high end watch to not have a latest processor.

I don't mind trying knock-offs as long as I can first examine them without purchasing. From what others have posted, I seem to recall seeing some differences. The part that probably worries me the most would be the lugs and whether material used wouldn't cause unnecessary wear to the watch body. The Ultra is a costly watch to lose if it's due to a failed lug.

The price of the watch is high but I don’t think they are marketing it as “high end”. It’s more for the adventurous type. Those ppl I would think would care more about better battery life which I’m not sure is going to happen until the display changes to microled and 3nm processors

So I have an Apple trail loop and a bunch of knock-off alpine loops.

Here is my assessment:

The Alpine loop knock-offs are noticeably cheaper than Apple's. Maybe you wouldn't notice it from a distance but on the wrist you can definitely tell. The knock-offs use a very cheap material. I say this as someone who ordered about 15 from amazon and sent most back. They are all slightly different crappy versions of Apple's. All mine have metal lugs but they do have some with plastic if wear on the watch is your concern.

I will say I change my bands 1-2 times a day and have seen no wear on the watch. Titanium is stronger then the cheap metal the knock-off lugs use.

Here is something interesting though. The Apple titanium lug has a worse fit than the knock-offs. Apple's is a bit loose when attached compared to the knock-offs. I guess I could go back to Apple and see if they'd replace it since its only 5 months old.

For me, paying about $10 for two knock-offs that I use when I lift weights and run is perfefctly acceptable. I'm not sure I'd drop $100 for a band that I only use to workout/run in.

Although, I will probably get the ocean band if I decide to use my watch when I surf and its not snugly tucked away under a wetsuit sleeve.

Interesting experiences, especially regarding the Apple titanium lugs.

Of the two bands I have (alpine loop and ocean loop) the alpine is definitely way more comfortable but the ocean one is visually more aesthetic by a lot.
