I got mine yesterday. $100 off is definitely a good price for that item. I haven't opened it yet as most of the time when I need laptop functionality I use my laptop. But at the $199 price point it was a bit too good to pass up.

People are turned off by the price. It's like how the HomePod has insanely good sound but doesn't sell because of its terrible price. Apple is too confident with these crazy prices.

I got the Magic Keyboard 12.9 at $350 and yes the price is stupid but it's the best apple accessory I ever bought. AirPods Pro a close second.
With you. I went back and forth when the Magic Keyboard came out, even bought the Smart Folio Keyboard, which I liked but still ended up biting the $350 bullet. It is my favorite Apple accessory hands down. Gave the SFK to my wife for her 12.9. I can see how the smaller one is a tougher price pill to swallow, especially for the Air users. I'm just hoping the 2021 iPad Pro works with the Magic Keyboard. If it does, I'll buy the 2021, if not, I'll hold on to my 2018.

Yeah, I know of services that ship to a nearby border and they handle the duties and ship it into Canada for local pickup.

But as you pointed out, the taxes (and currency conversion) will negate a lot of the savings. Plus the time and gas required to pickup.

I'd rather Apple just lower the price on Amazon.ca to the converted rate of $250 CDN...instead of the current $400.
Not gonna happen, because they can. Things are a lot more expensive here in Canada, because they can. We don’t have as many options and competitions. Think about how much you pay Bell or Rogers every month, and how much they pay it in the US or EU.

Typing on this keyboard is really smooth. It is a little bit of a tight fit but not too bad. The cursor solution that Apple came up with is stellar. At $300, I really wasn’t convinced but at $200, I think it is worth the cost.

Get a mailbox service near the boarder. Ship everything there, and just go pick it up every few weeks. (after COVID please) There is literally a big business for this. What you need to be smart about here is the Canadian tax. Throw the box away and have everything you can wear, on you.
I didn’t think of this at all... for big things like an iMac or similar, would be great to keep the box though. I would have hoped that one item for personal use would pass along.

I believe Canadian duty free threshold is C$80. Otherwise, HST or equivalent applies.
For Americans, the other way around, it’s US$800.
