Isn't it interesting that they are only offering the rainbow/pastel colored devices instead of silver, space grey, black, etc.? What a failed experiment the colors have been. I would have bought the 24 iMac if it was available in space grey or black.
Maybe your Amazon shows something different? I see Space Gray and Starlight (64GB) at the sale price. The other configurations are a bit scattered, but it's definitely not just a traditional / new color scheme issue.

I was all-in on space gray, but my iPhone Mini 13 and iPad mini 6 are both starlight and I've come to love the bright look

64gb on a tablet in 2023 is criminal. Even if Apple doesnt update these every year the least they can do is provide minimal updates to storage, RAM and maybe even the core. It really sucks to buy a premium device with such obvious limitations.

I disagree about contrast, unless we’re talking in sunlight. E-ink contrast is very low, something like 1:10. Much lower than laser printer on white paper as well. It’s the reason e-ink is unusable for me (bad eyesight, I need high contrast) unless I crank up the backlight, in which case I may as well use an LCD.
depends whether you have brightness or not, and yeah i was talking in sunlight or under light, no matter the source. especially the fact that the ipad screen's more reflective (not ips related )

even if you crank up the backlight (for good contrast 50% is more than enough but let's say in case you do) it's still better than lcd as the light comes from the front...frontlight vs backlight,no contest

Almost two years with no releases ... surely a Mini 7 will be released this spring or fall?
look at the ipad mini 4 to 5 - mini 4 launched September 2015, ipad mini 5 launched March 2019

I don't think this will be as long a gap but early 2024 looks likely at the moment

Hehe, turn off notifications and select more compelling books.

I agree with this. People who complain about the iPad being too distracting for reading probably have issues regardless with focusing. I know because I'm one of those. I definitely don't read more with an actual Kindle. And if I've got a great book, I'm reading it all regardless of what device is being used.

Rumors are stating late 2023.

I gave in and bought a 256GB Mini this past Black Friday, but I agree with many of the critiques here. $100 too expensive and the jelly scrolling, while not that big of a deal to me, is still noticeable. I always liked that the Mini had feature parity with the Air, but with the Air now being on an M1, I'm wondering if the Mini 7 will also move to an M-series chip.

the 64GB version in the UK is more than the 256GB US $549 version so you are lucky. At the moment the Apple price is £569 ($690) and Amazon is £519 ($630) for 64GB
I was just about to say the same thing! Those current UK prices are literally extortionate (I looked to see if there was a similar sale here, just out of curiosity)! Yes, I know we always have VAT to pay, but that's a double slap in the face from Apple to have jacked up the prices massively at some point, and for at least reasonably comparable sale reductions not also to be available in the UK.

It makes me very glad that I bought my iPad mini back when I did: even then it seemed a fairly hefty price increase over my previous model, but there is literally no way that I would pay these new inflated prices (I'd have had to have bought a standard iPad instead and curse that I would have had to have chosen a model physically larger and less convenient than what I wanted)…

Just exchanged my $399.99 64GB model for the 256GB model because of this sale. $649.99 I was not willing but, at $549.99 that is a go.

I used to feel the same about the colors until I picked up a discounted purple Mini at MicroCenter last year. I figured I'd just be sticking it in some sort of mono-chromatic case anyway, but I keep finding more and more reasons to pull it out of the case and one of the reasons is the color. It's very subtle and nicely done, not like the purple of the iMac or the phones.

the problem with it being an e-reader is there are just too many other distractions on it..
Well and also that staring into a bright LCD for extended periods is not great for you. The OLED on my iPhone is 50x more comfortable to read the screen in low light with the brightness turned all the way down. I'd really like to see Apple put OLED displays in the Pro, Air and Mini iPad without a colossal price hike, but I think it is clear Apple sees any major revision/upgrade as an excuse for a price hike. I want to be wrong.

$100 too expensive, or needs 128GB of storage as the base. Somehow I am making 64GB work...
I don't know about the M1/M2... The Mini already has a disadvantage of how much battery they can get in there and I'd rather they focus on maximizing battery life on a smaller device. Plus the A series chips are by no means slow. I'd rather see them innovate and bring some unique portable/size features to the mini, like why can't it shoot ProRes video to an attached SSD? It has the encoder on the A15 and USB 3.1 speeds.

It’s almost always $399 on Amazon. I bought my little brother one last May for his birthday from Amazon at $399.
Right. The 256GB though rarely drops to $549.99. I have actually never seen it cheaper then that for Wi-Fi version.

Came out in September of 2021, so Fall of 2023 would be 2 years. iPad models frequently go 18 to 24 months, and I think Apple really let it languish from the 4th to 5th gen, but I suspect that they'll do a spec bump of some sort this year to keep it up to date at least. I'd really love to see it have FaceID, but I'm not holding my breath that it will come this year.

This is why I love my Kindles. Since buying one a couple of years ago, I've read more books than I did in at least a decade before having one.

I can echo that also

I grabbed a 7.8" Nook and rooted it and installed KOReader, which gets rid of all issues/slowdowns/complaints about the B& part of it --- and I use the heck out of it for reading e-books .. and the no distractions, "it does one thing only", part is so essential there.

(vs my iPad Mini5, which is a distraction MACHINE!)

That was always my issue with the price hike going from Mini 5 to Mini 6

Either keep it at $399 or hike the storage to 128gb base -- instead they wanted the price and margin hike.

25% is no small price increase either

The same feelings here. I'm so glad I bought the mini 6 just before Apple ramped up the prices at the end of 2022

To think I did almost held a bit longer hoping a mini 7 would come out (and if it did, then go for the mini 7 or a reduced/clearance price mini 6)

Never in a million years did I expect there to be no new model AND for the mini 6 to go up in price!
