Purchased one (iPhone 11 version) off amazon a few weeks ago for $99. I’m surprised how much I use it. The bulkier design is actually more naturally contoured for a hand. The photo/video button is a nice feature as well. Recommended.

Plenty of product shots from Apple that shows the sides... plus the photo you're referring to is not from Apple.

The difference being Apple need only marginally increase thickness and weight of the phone to significantly increase battery life (while retaining overall good looks) as they have done in the iPhone Pro: finally listening to customer requests.

The battery cases have to encase a separate battery in some form of casing (silicone etc) with associated electronics and a connection to the lightning port, drastically increasing bulk and, in this case, in an oddly asymmetrical and unattractive fashion.

Totally different solutions to the same problem!
