I would be interested to see if there have been any structural integrity improvements to this design over time.

These don’t seem very discounted. I am planning to get the 11 inch pro for a family member who has been holding off till the announcements yesterday.

What is the smart move here? I know either model will be plenty powerful for their needs so it’s more about whether these discounts are worth it over a new model. At present I don’t think they are worth the small cost savings. But let me know your thoughts.

By far, buy the new 2021 iPad Pro! M1 - 2X faster then A12Z, 2GB more RAM, Wi-Fi 6, USB C.

Agreed. For a few more $ I'd go with the new M1 version.

Go with the 2021 iPad Pro. These discounts are mediocre and the improvements are worth it.

Keep in mind too we haven't even yet seen the software side of the 2021 Pros and won't until WWDC. You don't want to be leaving a lot more than you expect on the table.

I have my 11" 2020 iPP, and I have no desire to upgrade to the new iPPs (I'm getting one of the new iMacs instead.)

However, you'd be off of your nut if you bought a 2020 iPP now, regardless of (modest) savings, what with the new iPPs and their superiority.

Yeah if you're going to spend. For the difference may as well get the one that could be possibly opened up to MacOS if Apple chose to do so.

I could almost see buying a 2020 12.9” if I were in the market for that size as the difference in price is pretty steep and the current gen is still very powerful, but no one should buy a new 11” at these discounts. $70 buys you a LOT of future proofing. Of course this will prob kill the resale on my 2018 iPP when I do upgrade . . .

Unless you KNOW you will NEVER use the pro software Apple has in the pipeline for the next year or two, DO NOT BUY a NEW non M1 iPad Pro

My 9.7 iPad Pro finally kicked the bucket after my wife dropped it a few weeks ago. I brought a wifi 11" pro, only to exchange it a week later for wifi + cellular. I've got a return by date of 4/25, and am bummed about the weeks i'll have to wait in between having the ipad, but def want the upgrade. no sale could be good enough save for 50% off given the vast improvements of the M1 chip.

Now just torn b/c i had a 512GB which was more than enough, but to really future proof this in anticpation of what's to come, it seems I'll need to upgrade to 1TB to get the 16mb memory. I do plan on using FCPX (if/when it arrives) and Capture one (if/when), Lightroom, Photoshop, and Procreate pretty heavily..so it seems like the extra 400 (if wifi) is justified. Not so sure about an additional $200 on top for wifi + cellular though.

If you were making do with an old 9.7” chances are you don’t need the extra capability of M1.

Not that that should stop you changing

i wasnt making due sadly. It had long since stopped becoming useful for anything other than facetime for me so i brought a refurbished spec'd out 16" MBP last year instead of replacing it with an iPad.

In the past few weeks of owning the 2020 11" though I can see how having an iPad option would be much less cumbersome overall and a good companion to the laptop.

The M1 is obviously faster, but, it's hard to really know if it matters with the functionality of ipad OS. Outside of some rendering tasks, it's unlikely the speed would have any impact on the typical users daily experience.

Apart from the M1 chip, there's really no difference between the new and old 11" model. Once you can get the 2nd gen 11" for like $599 I'll definitely get one.

None of these A12Z iPad Pros are a good deal unless they're marked down at least $200 off the original MSRP. These current prices listed here are no less than what they were selling for months ago.
