I'll never understand this "discount." That's the same price as straight from Apple if you use their education pricing. And you don't have to risk getting an empty box or counterfeit.
You must not understand a whole lot then. Not everybody qualifies for the education pricing…get it?

Compared to $950 for an M1 MBA? (I actually bought one on AMZ, new, for $900 yesterday.) I think the iPads Pros are getting expensive, myself. I mean, you don't even have a real keyboard, and i/o is very limited. Not to mention an 11" screen vs 13". Just sayin'.
You must not need a iPad, you need a computer. They are different devices. Apple makes different devices, if you need to type more get a MacBook. If you need a touchscreen with apps get an iPad.

How much ram do you need? It’s an iPad not a Mac Pro.
You completely missed the point. Apple advertises these new iPad Pro models as coming with either 8GB or 16GB of ram depending on storage configuration.

But iPadOS 14 does now allow applications to use more than 5GB of ram.

If your statement of “it’s an iPad, not a Mac Pro” has any value to it, why are they advertising ram on the iPad (something they’ve never done before) and why can’t I use all 8 or 16GB of the ram I PAID for?

The IOS may not allow it, but it doesn't mean the App developers can't find ways to improve the ability of their apps on the new iPads.

For Procreate it means one of the most important things layers increases from 50+ to 90+ layers.

Why Apple has the IOS limiting the apps to 5GB of ram is their thing, but it doesn't mean the M1 versions are any less Pro.

Procreate patch only removes the 2GB RAM limit since the device was detected as 'unknown' but is now limited by 5GB RAM of iPadOS. It's not adding or improving anything but just fixing it so it works like on the 2020 iPad Pro.

My point is that the app maker could improve the app when allowed. I may have missed that 5GB limit on apps is permanent. There's the possibility that may increase, even with 15. It also isn't like I've heard anyone running into bottleneck limitations yet because of the 5GB cap, I'm reading the issue is "Apple promised". Ram limitations don't seem to be the hold up for users I've seen ( for app makers it is an issue ), just finding a new thing to complain about is the issue.

It doesn't make the iPP any less 'pro'.

The RAM is still on the SOC, it's not going anywhere. iPadOS 15 is right around the corner.

What pressing need to you have to access it right now? No app would even support addressing it.

STANning for a trillion dollar company.

look, you can hate amazon, they may be morally corrupt, treat their employees badly, maybe you hate your money goes to bezo's wife's alimony so he can go younger... i don't care if you choose not to buy from them for those reasons. just don't say they send fake ipads or empty boxes and then leave you high and dry. they don't. you order an ipad from amazon you'll get the ipad or they will fix it.
