Feels like Apple has painted themselves into a corner with the iMac now. I think the iMac now will only ever get standard M chips and not the Pro/Max/Ultra line ups and the Mini and Studios will essentially become the desktop version of the iPhone S cycle.

If they make a 27” or bigger and it’ll eat into ASD sales.

Or make an iMac with M2 Pro and a decent selection of ports (more than 2 USB C on the base spec) and it’ll eat into Mac Mini Pro and low end Studio sales

I wish Apple would have done these fun colors for the MacBook Air. I would have been all over that.
They'll eventually need to make MacBook Airs colorful. The M1 is already too fast to become a compelling reason for upgrading anytime soon. And consumer and professional notebooks must become more distinctive again to better fulfill their separate roles. Slight speed differences in certain video rendering tasks won't convince most pros to pay up for the more sophisticated laptop, if the cheaper one looks and feels the same.

iMacs are everywhere as point-of-sale machines. As a customer, getting a coffee? I'm looking at the back of an iMac when I pay. Checking in for my haircut? Back of an iMac.
That's ... quite interesting. I've seen a lot of iPads as POS systems but can't recall any iMacs.

What kind of software could be needed on a cash register that is too extreme for an iPad? In fact, I don't think I've seen an M1 iMac, anywhere, ever.

The iMac only makes sense when they bring back target display mode.

It's a huge waste of a good display when anything else breaks down.

I am still sour that they took it away. It's those practical solution - call it technical empathy - that more and more goes missing with Apple.

SCAM alert. If you ordered one of these discounted Macs, log in and you will see all orders were cancelled. They didn't even have the decency to send a cancellation email. I don't know what they are trying to steal but its disappointing.
