I currently use a dell i7 desktop from 2010, lol. Still serves me for all my needs. I been thinking of moving to the mac mini for better integration with my ipad and iphone. I'd imagine the performance over my old desktop would be great.
Yeesh. Pull the trigger already!

lol, but it does everything I need it for. web browsing just as fast on this as my m1 ipad. main reason for upgrading would be for behaving better with my other apple devices. imessage in particular along with apple music

This is really a killer machine for the price.
It is and I hate to break it to the MR's Team but it's been this low before ($569) on Amazon, several times, actually.

One last thing. After a year of heavy swap file usage on my MBA 8GB the usage cycles for the life of the drive was between 1% and 2%. There is zero concern about wearing out the flash storage with heavy swap file usage. Many reviewers are finding the same thing and recommend lower ram amounts to save money or use towards storage instead. The larger the storage the faster it will be making the swap file even faster.
I found out the hard way on my i5 2018 256GB Mini that the results were similar. I've owned it since 2019 and my disk usage cycle is around 1% loss as well. That's 3 yrs and just 1% disk wear, amazing!

I still use a mac pro 2010 as my main computer, and it is the arguably the best mac apple ever built and can easily smoke a M1 mac mini.

In what way?

Very true. But I also picked up an external 1TB SSD for a quarter of the price of CTO option for an internal 1TB drive.
I have an existing 2TB T5 which serves me fine. Although if the video situation continues at pace, I'll need to bump that to a 4TB T7 before too long. Computers are a bottomless pit. :)
