$300 for a keyboard 😆I am pretty loyal to Apple, but that is why I have a Surface Pro instead of an iPad.
The standard magic keyboard is already 150$. Doesn’t include a trackpad(that’s an extra 150$). Doesn’t include a magnetic stand plus passthrough charging.
199 for all that plus a back lit keyboard I think it’s priced pretty well.
Normal price of 300$ is a little steep but 199 for all you get is worth it.

I can't imagine they are going to create this accessory and have it only be compatible with current devices for only a year.
The 11" Magic Keyboard will still be compatible with the iPad Air 4 and its annual iterations for at least a few more years. Since they positioned the new Air so close to the 11" Pro (the latter still being superior IMHO [RAM, speakers, Face ID, camera, etc.] but the former giving Apple better margins), expect the Air to take the 11" Pro's spot as the mid-range iPad. The price drop probably has more to do with encouraging new Air owners to buy it rather than an impending refresh.

The new 12.9" (or whatever size they choose) will be the top-of-the line flagship with a redesigned Magic Keyboard. I had the 12.9"/MK combo for a month but decided to return it, iPad OS aside, it feels like top-heavy kludge, not Apple's finest design effort. A lot of course has to do with the limitations presented by the iPad itself carrying most of the weight, but if they've been able to trim this down we may get a more finely balanced and useful keyboard (no function keys and that baby business card-sized trackpad are embarrassing for something weighing as much as a Macbook Pro). I'm about to open my new MK for my 11" Pro, I expect it'll be a much more sleek and functional package than the 12.9" was.

So who authorizes this sale reduction?

Is it an arrangement between Apple and specific retailers where they sell it to Amazon at a reduced cost for 'x' days?
Or is Amazon simply taking a smaller cut/loss?

If it's the former, perhaps Apple is market testing to gage interest at the $199 as a possible new price point.

It is Apple's cut, they would not dare lowering the price directly, they use commercial partners to give discounts. The only "official" discounts Apple does in their stores is education, public officials and veterans, things like that.

I own this magic keyboard and I'm very happy with it. Crisp keyboard and fully functional trackpad.

I also really like the adjustable viewing angle and the extra height compared to the old folio case.

5 stars!
