I had high hopes for the HomePod but looking back I’m now really glad I built my house with speakers in mind. My 12 Sonos Amps kick butt compared to this. 4 echo dots get the AI done just fine when needed, which isn’t much.

I’m not saying you made a bad choice with Sonos, because it’s a great competitor to the HomePod. But I think the majority of consumers use the HomePod for single case use (As in the living room setting, not purchasing multiple units for their house). Also, you mentioned the Echo Dot, definitely an affordable device, but I don’t trust the privacy aspect side of things with the Dot. I think that’s the one thing about Apple, is they really do value your privacy Versus some of these other competitors.

This hasn't been my experience. I'll often airplay from my appletv to my Sonos and two HomePods so I can hear dialog throughout the house.
I use HomePods with my AppleTV all the time and can stream it everywhere if I wanted. Not sure how that relates to having to connect them to the AppleTV each time I want to use them if I’ve used them for literally anything else in the meantime.

I purchased one from John Lewis for £199 about 2 months ago.
I got one for £229 at Christmas from Argos but never seen it as cheap since.

I missed the John Lewis deal though.

$99 would be the correct price for this device IMO.
The pricing has never seemed right. Which seems like it would be important when there are few ways to effectively demo the product (trying to test one in an Apple Store hardly seems like an effective place to test out audio equipment that doesn't use headphones).

So.. $400 for stereo?
Worth no more than $99. I doubt I would even pay that much..

Y’know... all you people saying this thing is too expensive for a speaker don’t get it.

It’s like saying “Why should I pay $100K for a BMW M5 when a $20K Honda Civic can get me from A to B perfectly fine? Sheesh. The M5 should be $30K instead.”

Solution: If you don’t get or want what an M5 can do that a Civic can’t, and if the Civic does what you need, then buy the Civic and be happy. Don’t go trolling the BMW forums complaining that the M5 is too expensive.

And all you people complaining that it sucks because it doesn’t do some specific thing you want it to do but it isn’t designed to do also don’t get it.

That’s like saying the BMW M5 sedan sucks because you can’t fit a couch in the back like you can with a Ford F-150 truck.

The HomePod is awesome for what it’s designed to do. And yes, it does pretty much suck at the things it wasn’t designed to do. Imagine that!! If you need/want what this is designed for then buy it. If you want something this isn’t designed for then get something else that does do what you need.

And all of you, either way, contribute something positive to the universe instead of all this negative complaining.

I meant specifically if I have a show going....perhaps I'm misunderstanding your point. I have no problems using them as music speakers either.

as a sound engineer, I have been wondering about a set of these.
Once the dropped to this price point I bit.
The sound quality is very good for its size, I have been using them in my studio, and set them on top of my mains, I like them a bunch at lower volume , they are colored a bit, compared to a true near field, or main studio monitor, but super flat speakers while being good to do work on, and are very accurate, can be fatiguing.
The Siri integration with iTunes is stellar, the home automation part I have yet to get started with, have a bunch of things on order, lights , plugs, and switches.
Seems very cool and useful. Amazing how Siri hears on these little things.
Even with music playing, I see some have had issues. But I don’t.
The pair is for sure a deal at $400.
Nothing touches them in this size sound quality wise. Others may get louder, and are much bigger.
but are in no way “better”.
Their is a difference.
I am digging mine..

Ok..

Y’know... all you people saying this thing is too expensive for a speaker don’t get it.
I am all ears. So, let's see what you're saying.

It’s like saying “Why should I pay $100K for a BMW M5 when a $20K Honda Civic can get me from A to B perfectly fine? Sheesh. The M5 should be $30K instead.”
I don't understand your logic. Quite the opposite; why is $20k Honda Civic being sold for $100k when a Mercedes-Benz that's sold same for $100k that does a lot more and in much more premium way.

Solution: If you don’t get or want what an M5 can do that a Civic can’t, and if the Civic does what you need, then buy the Civic and be happy. Don’t go trolling the BMW forums complaining that the M5 is too expensive.
So, do I misunderstand you or are you seriously implying that we should all be accepting whatever is being thrown at us, keep it quiet and not criticize it - in a way to express our thoughts in a forum that's designed to actually express thoughts? If you don't like my idea, you are free to pass along. No one has to agree with you, neither with me.

And all you people complaining that it sucks because it doesn’t do some specific thing you want it to do but it isn’t designed to do also don’t get it.

I am not expecting HomePod to make a panini for me (reference to your example), instead I expect a "sound system" to provide features on par with competition at same price point unless HomePod is only designed to give you stereo sound for $400.

If you need/want what this is designed for then buy it. If you want something this isn’t designed for then get something else that does do what you need.
Umm..that's exactly what I meant with my original idea (the one you could not stand or accept and implied that I have to agree with you or keep it quite)

And all of you, either way, contribute something positive to the universe instead of all this negative complaining.
So, agreeing with your idea is something that contributes positivity to the universe and the opposite is not? I am sorry but I find this quite funny.

I have been using Apple products starting with the second iPhone and to date, I have bought most of the products because I see value in it. Owner of a Macbook Air, iPad, Apple TV and the AirPods at the moment. Enjoying each of them however I would never pay $400+ for a stereo sound considering IMO the purpose for the HomePod is to get sound usually based on AAC compressed codec and nothing will ever change my thoughts on that.

So, I will repeat mine and I still respect your idea;
"Worth no more than $99. I doubt I would even pay that much.."
