These things feel so overpriced in 2021
Well, I slightly disagree. Everything what Apple TV does as a content platform it does quite well.

Additionally and what most people forget to consider, it serves as a hub for a lot of HomeKit extensions, all fully integrated into the Apple ecosystem.

I actually am not aware of a cheaper bundle serving all those needs.

Yet, I still get the feeling it never got rid of the “hobby” label.

A $100 HomePod mini serves as a homekit hub. That would leave you with $80 to get basically any other streaming stick or box out there and you'd get a HomePod mini out of it too.

I’ve got an Apple TV 4K, used on a TCL Roku TV and gave away two Fire TVs. The cheaper streaming devices aren’t worth it in comparison, I always prefer Apple TV.

While I like a lot Macbook and iPhones, I personnaly prefer by far my Nvidia Shield Pro than an Apple TV 4K.

Apple TV is good if you just want to watch SVOD (Netflix, Disney+ etc.) and you are in the Apple ecosystem. But in my case even with multiple Apple devices, I am very limited given my TV usage with an Apple TV.
I watched a lot of local 4K Dolby Vision content with my OLED TV thus I need expandable storage + a lot of video/audio/subtitles formats to be supported and at this stage Apple TV can't do this.

And there is no AI upsacaler - this allow to improve a lot visual quality of FHD video content (live TV channels, old movies etc) on a 4K display

My 2 cents 🤓

Serious question. Can you screen mirror to any other stick? I know when I had fire sticks, they had some mirroring apps, but they ididn’t work worth a dang.

I wanted to buy this so bad but Apple got their top team together to come up with reasons why not to.
Almost zero difference from the 1st 4k model.
But hey, you can spend $180 on a new remote!

I bought one a few months ago and I absolutely love it. I could get things cheaper or even free but the experience just isn't as nice and thought out.

I really like our Apple TV's. I got an HD Homerun 4K Flex so I can also watch free live TV and the device is perfect. I think it's maybe a little expensive but it does what it does better than anything else. Extremely fast and responsive and the voice recognition is superb.

Google and Amazon might be cheaper, but they are cheaper because you are the product. Despite Apple's stupid CSAM mess they are head and shoulders above Amazon and Google in keeping my data private.

I can't believe people still trust in Apple after CSAM mess. For Apple you are a product and money feeder. Apple holding tons of customer data and they explode all iSheeps once their earnings start slows down.

The old remote was absolute garbage.

I love my 4K atv. It should be £99 but I don’t care I want to get another one to replace my atv3 for my other tv. $10 isn’t really a big discount, they must sell well at rrp.

The upscaler in the 4K appletv is there. I have both the shield and the appletv and the shield still isn’t as good picture wise as an appletv. Don’t fall for a fancy upscaler name. I’ve compared back to back my own content in the shield and infuse in appletv and also streaming apps.
same with tv’s. They all have upscalers And some tv’s do better with upscaling Like Sony.
only Thing the shield has going for it is that it can be its own Plex server And plays atmos files. I much prefer Infuse to Plex on the shield or kodi on the shield.

The 4K Fire TV Cube I bought to replace an old Apple TV was absolute garbage. After giving it some thought, I decided to buy a Roku Ultra on sale for $80. I am extremely happy with it. The Apple TV is just too expensive for what I need it for nowadays. I’ve essentially decided to go Roku from now on and have a few around the house now. I loved my Apple TV but just could not justify the expense.

I use infuse to access files on my network and have been very happy with it. Plays everything and can download subtitles from the app.

Say what? First, are you a time-traveller because you wrote “after CSAM mess” when that has not been released yet and may well not be. Second, the only privacy-head-in-the-sand sheep I am aware of are the people who continue to use Google, Facebook, Amazon, etc who are already scanning CSAM but in a way you would never know if they sold out to foreign entities. Seriously, how stupid do the you think the rest of us are?

On topic, the Apple TV experience is far superior to any other device I have ever experienced, don’t even get me started on so-called “Smart TVs“, and is worth the cost to me. Bonus, I am not selling my privacy in the process.

If only there was an Apple 4K streaming stick that was the same size as the FireTV 4K stick - they're great to travel with and especially as you can download a VPN app to them too...$40 with a voice remote. Would be more than happy to pay $80 for an AppleTV travel stick even if it didn't have a voice remote...but still want VPN on ATV.
