Verizon today introduced one of the first big Black Friday discounts of the season, offering a rare low price on Apple's HomePod mini. You can get the smart speaker for $79.99 in all colors, down from $99.99, and you don't need to be a Verizon customer to get this deal.

Although we have seen the HomePod mini drop to lower prices in the past, any discounts on the accessory have been supremely rare in the last year; in 2022 alone, we only tracked prices below $89.99 once or twice. This makes Verizon's offer quite valuable for anyone who's been waiting for any sale on the HomePod mini this holiday season.

We're keeping track of all of the season's best Apple-related deals in our Black Friday roundup, so be sure to check back throughout the month for an updated list of all the most notable discounts you'll find for Black Friday 2022.

I desperately wanted to go all homekit with a homepod, hoping it would sound better than my echo, but it sadly doesn't. I got a similar price at Target this past weekend, tried it out, and had to return it since it was so tinny sounding in comparison. :(

Maybe nice for a small space, but not good enough for my kitchen / open floor plan living area like my echo is.

Costco regularly has them at that price. I know you have to have a membership but if you do, watch for the deal. I usually check for it in store and then go online to order the color I want. I have purchased 4 that way at different times.

It easily sounds better than the Echo Dot and gets loud with impressive bass for its size. The microphones are also excellent it picks you up even when you are in other rooms and you don't have to shout when musics loud. The regular Echo however is where Apple needs a bigger HomePod to properly compete.

Really? I thought the Echo sounded bad, especially when I had the volume up.

I have these all over my house now.

I've been using the full sized HomePods for years now, 2 in a stereo pair for our Living Room Apple TV and then another in my office. I haven't used the HomePod mini yet, but they seem like they'd work to just toss in my bag to use on the go? At $80 that's on par with my Bose SoundLink Color BlueTooth Speaker, which I'm looking to replace. Would it be worth it to have one of these on the go? Would that work if I'm still able to connect to power, and both my MBP & iPhone are connected to any available WiFi? Do the HomePod Minis also need to be connected to WiFi or do they communicate via BlueTooth or some other Apple'Magic Type of way?

interesting... how far can this generally connect from a Mac? (I tend to use the old school library on my computer rather than stream things)

Here's hoping that Apple release a HomePod mini in 2023 that includes a small screen, in the 5" range, similar to an Echo Show 5. I'd really like to get rid of the rest of my Alexa gear and this would be a big step toward making that happen.
I hope not. Can´t imagine the price increase.

I think it's more likely they'll release the rumored iPad dock. This seems like something that Apple would see as competing with the iPad.

it’s an airplay connection, so the mini needs to be on wifi as well. the initial connection is done via the home app.

I wish they would set these up to be satellite speakers for HomePods in a stereo pair. Would be nice to set up a surround system like this. Ps, I also would be happy to see updated HomePods.

Good decision. Apart from poor sound, I had so many other problems with HPM. Had to: replace router (home Wifi network destruction - problems even on other non-Apple devices), move it a bit further from router (WiFi not working when HPM is too close, e.g. about 1 meter), HomeKit device statuses outdated (sometimes), AirPlay2 working _sometimes_, etc. etc.
All problems disappeared as soon as I replaced HMP with Apple TV (2022 edition) for HomeKit purposes (I don't need Siri and streaming, especially to such poorly sounding device).
I read some reddit discussions about it. It seems I'm not the only one that has similiar experience. Funny thing is that when both Apple TV and HMP are installed, HMP's takes over role of primary gateway.

And in a small space, it's not loud enough, and the Echo dot comes out ahead. At least it has Siri going for it 🤣

LOL she actually is getting worse :) I used to be able to have her change the length of a timer.

"Hey, Siri, change the timer to one hour"

Before:
"OK, I changed your timer to one hour"

Now:
"I found one timer for ## minutes; do you want to change it?", "Yes", "To how long?", "One Hour" "OK, I changed your timer to one hour" I already told you all this!!!!

Does anyone have experience with Homepod Mini vs Denon HEOS 1? I have HEOS speakers, but no Airplay or BT compatibility is a big barrier to other family members. I've been thinking of just sucking it up and switching to Homepod for ease of use.

I'm not comparing it to an echo dot either I have a cylindrical $100 (I think?) echo. Sounds tremendously better at the same price point.
