I finally broke down and bought a refurb on eBay for $65 shipped and I really like it. My only complaint about Siri playing music is I have a VERY deep and eclectic catalog of 4500 songs and i swear I hear the same ones over and over. Guess I should break down and create some playlists
Alex Chilton by the Replacements came on the other day. I said to myself there's something I can create a station off of. Some good tunes came in to the rotation, however it didn't take long to see a pattern developing. Besides every other song becoming Bob Mould or Husker Du, Alex Chilton became the 8th song in the playlist. Contrary to Paul Westerberg, "What's that song? I now hate that song." 😂

A caution for anyone interested in this deal: My order experience has been frustrating at best.

Foremost, Verizon's site kept stalling when using Safari. Following a switch to Brave browser and some patience, I did get two HomePod minis added to cart — going for the yellow and orange for those curious. Next, at the checkout process, the login claimed my username and password were incorrect. A few attempts later, reached the security question and that didn’t work. Some browser security adjustments and attempts later, I finally landed at checkout. I saw the same day delivery option and tried that, a bad idea as it was falsely offered and messed the shipping charges. So, logged back in and found my way back to checkout. Order successful… Yay! Next day, I receive an email:

Verizon said:
Your order is being cancelled.

Dear Customer: [...]

[...]

We weren't able to validate the above order with the information you've provided. If you feel this was done in error, please let us know at 888.483.7200.

At this point, I am guessing my concerns of using my 5G Home Internet related account to complete this order was indeed valid.

Anyway… Log back in and try to verify via My Orders section. A text message verification. However, the only number associated is the SIM in the Internet gateway. Of course, that won’t (easily) be viable. Okay, now to calling the phone number. Get through the convoluted automated list of options and end with a message stating I will err should receive an email message instructing on how to securely submit a photo copy of my state ID/driver’s license.

Are you freaking joking?! I need to go through these hoops to order HomePods, yet didn’t need to when signing up for Internet service — which, by the way, Verizon has been successfully receiving payment for months.

P.S. I only have two days to resolve this, according to them, and still have not received this supposed message stating how I submit ID for verification.

P.P.S. Anyone aware if I submit an order as a guest (i.e., manually entering in billing and shipping information) rather than using (and billing) to my VZ account would actually be successful without the unreasonable verification steps?

Like they discontinued the original HomePod among other products? Or release a new version and discontinue like every manufacturer does? Proper shade should at least make a shred of sense.
Do you … know what it means to discontinue a product?

Because releasing an updated version is the very opposite of discontinuing it. You could call it continuing it. In fact, most people would call it continuing that product.

Also, how exactly did the completely abnormal discontinuation and subsequent revival of the larger HomePod support your point? Apple’s announcement that they discontinued the original HomePod was viewed as highly abnormal at the time, and made even more unusual and confusing given the revival of the product line. You can’t just be basing it on the fact that they just have “HomePod” in the name.

Right?

… Riiiiiiiiight?

Oh, wait. It’s because they both have “HomePod” in the name, isn’t it?

Whoopsie.

(Now, if you mean that they will cease manufacturing an older model of a product in order to sell the updated version of that same product … no duh! But that is not the same thing as discontinuing.)
