you're only hope is to get a costly replacement from Apple

While I think HP is worth the money, this, along with the lack of other connectivity options, is what has kept me from buying a HomePod. AppleCare adds $40 but I expect speakers to last WAY more than 3 years. I don't want or value a home assistant and surely the speaker components will outlive the "computer parts" Apple will probably at some point stop issuing updates and HomePod Gen1 will be stuck in limbo. I would much rather have my iPhone/AppleWatch/Macbook talk to Siri and have a good set of speakers that should last 10 years or more.

Given our original Bose Sound Dock has become a dust collector with a short that makes listening to it all but impossible, I think it’s time to upgrade to a HomePod.
The problem is that there is no equalizer function for the HomePod

It produces way too much bass for most of my use. I can't believe that the original I pod I had 17 years ago had an equalizer but this thing does not.

It's not - they were $299.99 when I was there over the weekend to buy an iPad. I was going to pick one up at $199 but since they weren't on sale I didn't.
Look it up on slickdeals. Best Buy has been running this “discount” for a few weeks a month for the last several months.

I have two HomePods acting as a stereo pair for music and when watching movies using AppleTV in the bedroom. Not the same as the experience when watching movies in my full blown home theater but pretty darn close and in a far smaller package and since I bought my HomePods on sale, a much lower price. The only drawback is I can't get the sound output from the TV to the HomePods when watching over the air content. But that isn't a big deal for most of the over the air content anyway (news, etc.).

you can get around that by using a HDHomeRun with your antenna. This will let you view the OTA content through an AppleTV app, and also gives you DVR functionality.

I felt the bass was too high on my Homepod as well.

However, I just received a second homepod and paired them. The bass is now much more balanced and they sound quite good together. If you can pick up a second one on the cheap, it might solve your bass issues.

Thanks. That might be a good addition for the winter. I watch a lot less tv in the summer as it is just too darn nice outside to be inside.

I bought one today for our new apartment. We are downsizing and this easily fills the room. Can't go wrong at that price.
