Price drops are always appreciated, but the base price wasn't the problem with this machine, it's the insane upgrade pricing.

It's so crazy to me. Because it's a good price for what it is. Would provide a lot of flexibility for a lot of use cases.

But the lack of the ability to add storage on it just drives me mad. Because there is no engineering reason for it.

Believe you me Apple knows how much the average disk space everyone uses built into their computers.
They may not know what is on that ssd but they know what space is used up you can count upon that.

I agree that a 256GB speedy SSD is a great starter for these things. But they don't know my needs. Everything looks great about this. But no ability to change out something as dead-simple routine as an M2 SSD is like a baseball bat right into the spokes.

Have fun with your deteriorating software as Apple moves completely away from Intel. I’m sure you’ll be thrilled with it over the next 10 years. Congrats! 😉

I built in 2019. 9900k 5700xt. so basically a high end 2019 iMac except for I've got 32 GB of 3600 mhz ram 2 tb of nvme storage, 4 tb of ssd storage and 2 sata ports to spare. plus i can overclock the cpu and it cost about half the price the iMac would have with base storage and ram. I then added a 32" 4k monitor and still came out cheaper than the iMac would have been

currently the only thing it can't do that apple silicon can is some of the new windows crossover api game stuff, but I can just boot windows anyway so I'm not missing anything there. in fact I can even boot my physical windows drive in VMware on a separate space

I plan to get three to five more years out of it. so I might even get one more intel macOS after Sonoma, plus two more years of slight updates

at that point I'll probably have to look in to buying a real Mac. hopefully apple will have caught up a bit performance wise on the hardware side by then

and my monitor will still be usable instead of just going to waste

It's funny how I don't see a lot of M1 Mac Minis for sale for less than that and the 2018 is even more.
Do you think there would be a fire sale on the M1 version.
