Amazon has a batch of discounts on the previous generation MacBook Air, which debuted earlier in 2020. Deals start at $849.99 for the 256GB MacBook Air, down from $999.99.

You can get this sale in Gold, Silver, and Space Gray, although for the latter two color options you won't see the sale price until you head to the checkout screen. Shoppers should note that this is the best price we've ever tracked for this model of the MacBook Air.

Secondly, the 512GB MacBook Air is on sale for $1,049.99 in Gold and Space Gray, down from $1,299.00. Again, you'll need to head to the checkout screen to see this discount finalized in your cart, which represents another all-time-low price on the MacBook Air from early 2020.

You can find even more discounts on other MacBooks by visiting our Best Deals guide for MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. In this guide we track the steepest discounts for the newest MacBook models every week, so be sure to bookmark it and check back often if you're shopping for a new Apple notebook.

Good luck selling those. Poor resellers left with inventory. Literally poor, in some cases.

BTW, this is why the new and old ones look the same. Granny Myrna walking into a MediaMarkt to buy a 2020 Macbook Air would be delighted to see lower prices.

Edit: just looked at my favourite online store. They're trying to sell the Intel ones at higher price (1249 vs 1139 for 8/256 GB). The models are nicely scrambled on the page, all of them saying 2020, the processor only mentioned in the description. Thoughts and prayers, guys.

Intel who? 🥱

Also if you’re a student you can get the M1 MBA for just $50 more. Buyer beware!

But honestly the average consumer will buy these. Intel still has brand reputation with the average dad and mom buying their daughter a laptop for school.

People on this forum often forget the real world. Most people buying a Mac won't have a clue about Apple Silicon and M1 etc. They will go to the shiny Apple Store / Authorised Reseller, see a "nice Mac" with 15 % off, snap it up, and go home well-pleased with the deal and the product. They will sell their inventory easily enough.

Maybe this is the reason why Apple extended their return period until January.

Most people do not have a clue on just about everything that happened in 2020.
A laptop that looks exactly the same and has an Intel sticker is easy peasy.

I wish Apple slaps an Intel Inside sticker to these Macs.

My two cents. Need bigger discount to go with this over the M1. Not close in my mind right now. MacBook Air with no fan? Cmon.

I'd stay well away from the Early 2020 MacBook Air, even at discount prices. It's a bit of a lemon due to the poor thermals and noisy fan.

It's funny - my co-worker who is retiring and a casual user of Intel Macs, asked me about the final laptop to get before her discount from our organization ends.

I replied with:
If you want a future laptop then get the M1 MBA.
If you want to live in the past like the Intel Macs you have used, get the discounted one.

I am trading in my 2020 air while apple will still give me 650 for it and picking up a M1 ASAP.

Absolutely do this. I can’t believe they are still wanting to give me $250 for my old 2015 retina MacBook 1.1GHz. I would trade it for an Air in a heart beat if I could but I gave it to my mom to use several months ago and I don’t think she wants to give it back lol 😆
