I just registered again with a new email address, there's no free player option, they say you can get a free licence after registering but all I can find is the paid version.

There is no "free version" of VMware Fusion specifically. The only difference is the license. Fusion, Fusion Player, and Fusion Pro are all the same download. Just download the paid version, run it (with the 30 day free trial) and enter the free license information you receive after registering.

I agree that the VMware website is atrocious and does not make this clear at all.

Can someone please link the page for the free version.
Much appreciated.
I agree it's not easy to find on their website, it shows in my downloads for me but I signed up via the inital press release. However I just searched DuckDuckGo for "vmware fusion free license" and it gave me this URL:

Sign in, it should take you automatically to the second tab - License & Download. Click on the prominent blue button "Manually Download" - also the license is displayed towards the top of the page under License Information.

VMWare has an awful website, I tried to download the free version, nope, can't get it to work.
Had an ancient email adres registered with them, can't register with a new one.
Just tried again, it's horrible/laughable/incredibly stupid.
I just created this new one, WTF.

Parallels is worse, most of the time the versions work for a year, it then fails to run decently or not at all on the new OS, so, cost you money again to Update.
For me, it was pretty easy to create an account. I have VMWare Fusion Pro through work, but created an account for my personal Mac using this link. I just used Safari's suggested strong password and everything was good to go.

I got it to work eventually (Registering), the download links some friendly posters pointed me to don't load, I think I had this before a month or so ago, the website is just atrocious.

I used Safari's password suggestion, didn't work, I think I know why, there's no Uppercase letters in it (At least in mine) which the site says it needs.

That worked, but...still not like click link and download, Safari refuses to open the link, it just won't load the page, using Brave I got into the page after login, it showed me a download link, download link did not work, I then used Inspect elements to see what was behind the button, could not copy the content, dragged it out of Brave onto desktop, I then could open and see the download location, pasted it in Brave URL bar, did not work, pasted into Safari URL bar, that did the trick.
Opened it, input the Licence, works.

WTF, it really is the worst site on this planet...erm...universe.

More to the point: is an upgrade to "Parallels for Apple Silicon" going to be free if you buy Parallels 16 today?

Otherwise, Apple have shown it running Linux on ASi, and it is more than likely that Microsoft, Apple and/or Parallels will thrash out some licensing agreement to make Windows 10 for ARM available via virtualisation (unless there is some hitherto unpublicised technical barrier to that).
Does any software actually run on Window 10 for ARM?

I’ve been a loyal customer for both of these companies for many years. Boo on both of them for neglecting there loyals to attract new customers.

I upgraded Parallels from 13 to 16 a month or so ago, with a perpetual license so I pay no subscription fees. I don't want to this type of software; I prefer to install it, get it perfect, and then leave it alone. I mainly use it to access my Boot Camp partition without having to restart my machine.

Ever hear of the curse of knowledge? You assume your readers have heard of Fantastical. I and likely many other readers have not. And nowhere in the article do you tell what it is/does or provide a link to info about it.

Glad you got it working eventually, that webbiste is not easy to navigate!
For me, the link opens in Safari, takes me to the product page, I log in and then click download - it downloads the DMG. Works the same way for me in Firefox too in Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur Beta.
I wonder if there's something else preventing you downloading it?

Might be some adblocker, but then again, I switched them of, no dice.

I use adblockers in Firefox, sorry I can't help with that - at least you managed with a workaround!!! I'm enjoying it so far, I have Parallels 15 which I also enjoy but going forward I may stick with Fusion.
