A useless product that doesn't even support Apps. Amazon's Echo is far superior in voice recognition, it connects to Apple Music and Podcasts and you can install your favourite radio Apps and other 3rd party software like Audible.

We have the Echo 4th gen and it sounds great.
I use my HomePod minis in several rooms for hours throughout the day. Airplay, AppleTV, homekit. I’m on the 7th inning of the Friday night baseball game on TV+. Your echo plays the occasional song and tells you the weather.

I have 2 HP’s but I don’t see the point of the mini’s. They don’t sound good enough for music and for home automation, I can get google or echo devices for less than $40. It’s a product in no man’s land, and I can’t even trust Apple to support this product so why would I waste even $90 on it?

Well if you buy two and place them just right in a stereo pair they sound pretty good. They make a decent speaker for an Apple TV with a TV that doesn’t have good speakers.

"Rare sale"? These are $80 at Costco every week. More like rare chance to sucker the ignorant into clicking on an affiliate link...

I bought one for my office and it was constantly unable to connect to that wifi network, to the point of being unusable. Equally frustrating was the lack of controls in the Home app to reconnect it, short of resetting it manually or plugging it into my mac. I ended up bringing it home and it has been much more stable on that network, however.

Rare? It's on sale frequently at Costco and Sams (multipack). I guess at those places you need membership, but it has been a deal at Best Buy a number of times too.
Costco had them for $80 each earlier this month, I picked up a yellow. Sometimes you don't need the multipack to get sale benefits.

i had two of these for several months and had so many documented issues with them that i got a special return policy exemption to send them both back. never able to play music correctly, siri had no idea what i was saying, constantly disconnecting from my homekit lights, and if you asked siri to play music (via apple music) it would only play one channel of audio instead of both channels. truly bizarre device - and apple was somehow convinced i had “developer beta” software on my device … i’ve never been so happy to send devices back.

Yeah, I'm kinda at a loss as to why someone would buy a homepod without other Apple gear

That's kinda like saying "echo's are awful, useless without an amazon account"

An Amazon account is basically free, an iOS/Mac device is not.

Homepod is a complete failure as a standalone product, as you need another expensive product to use it for anything.

Except it’s not being targeted or marketed as a standalone device. You can’t really use an Apple Watch without at least having an iphone, are you complaining about that?
