The AC3000 3 pack RBK53 is on sale at costco for $299 if you're skipping Woot for the peace of mind

I complete agree with you on that, but the disclaimer... 😓
"Note: MacRumors is an affiliate partner with Woot. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps us keep the site running."

I don't see anywhere in the disclaimer that Woot represents used items as refurbished.

We have Netgear ORBIs covering our decent size house and it does great. But after getting a heavily used (and quickly malfunctioning) iPhone on Woot that was sold as "Refurbished" I am dubious on them as an outlet.

Thanks for the insights. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Eero offer this type of control built-in at no cost? I thought I read that somewhere but can't seem to find it...
No. Not at this time. That’s why I ended up going with the Orbi system instead. Really kind of silly that eero don’t offer website blocking per device.

I ended up going with a refurb RBR50 from amazon for $90. We have a relatively small house so I only needed the base station—no satellites. I debated getting a router that supports Openwrt but I really didnt feel like messing with all of that.

Looks like maybe they've updated things? If you scroll down there's a section where you can see screenshots of scheduling devices: https://eero.com/experience

I went with a refurb RBR23 from Amazon, but not sure I'll keep it. I really would like the device time allowances. But still looking for a better/different non-router specific solution.

I’m still using Apples time capsule and airport express, is anyone else?

I prefer the Ubiquiti products with mesh. Coverage is about 12,000 square feet for me currently which covers about what I need.
Wireless backhaul? I'm sure you are using wired backhaul. The point of these routers is wireless backhaul, which Ubiquiti doesn't do well at all.

I'm also impressed with Ubiquiti. My system has an Edgerouter X, three APs, two POE switches handling the three APs and seven security cameras, and it has been rock solid for a year 24/7 with never a reboot.

the way I understood it from research is that eero has content blockers for categories (porn, gambling, etc) per profile, but you can’t block specific websites (eg youtube) for specific profiles/ devices. It’s an old issue on the support forums but one they don’t seem to want to address. Orbi/Circle on the other hand was just a few clicks to enable most site blocks and whenever there’s an issue, it’s very simple to whitelist a site. For instance with the move to digital learning, circle was blocking the googleapi for classrooms. It was maybe 3 taps to enable.

couldn't these paid ads masquerading as "rumors" be put in a banner or sidebar? my experience with Woot was terrible, and I think calling their products "refurbished" is inaccurate - they don't do refurbishing, just repackaging.

Having tried Orbi, Nighthawk and other Mesh set-ups/hardware. I can only seriously recommend one brand at the moment and that is Unifi. Don't look any further and get yourself a Unifi USG + Unifi Switch with POE+ and 1 or 2 AP Pro's to start with. Quite a few ex Apple employees how joined them over the years and their hard and software is amazing and like Apple, you just want to buy anything new they release.

As someone who just upgraded his wifi network, do not believe marketers who say a device will give you wider coverage as all antennas are almost as powerful, what you want to do is install MORE antennas and not 1 or 2 powerful antennas.

I disagree with the home use part. You will get better speeds across longer distances and especially where interference is involved with WIFI 6. For example, I can get 250 mbps over WIFI across my entire house. With WIFI 6, I can actually get 600+ consistently. Is this important for the average user, no; however, for me it is.

Would you say Wifi6 has better wall/object penetration? or does it reach further in an open area?

Yes I am .... and things are starting to get glitchy with worsening connection in the periphery of my home.

What are the top two contenders I should be researching?

Are folks still using Time Machine? What’s the alternative to the Time Capsule besides cloud based backup? Or am I the on,y one still doing local backups. 😕

better wall penetration, especially in older houses. I can use a single WIFI 6 router and get coverage throughout my entire house. With the current standards, I am using 3 google WiFi points in a mesh setup.

Which Wifi 6 router are you using?
Does it get better coverage if both router+client are using Wifi 6 or the Wifi 6 will reach any legacy device better?
Do you know how it is reaching farther since radio waves all act the same, as in if a wall will block Wifi5 it should block Wifi6 too.

Does the dream machine or the Ubiquiti AP provide wireless backhaul? Can I have 1 Dream Machine and 3 APs creating a wireless mesh like Netgear Orbi does?

I’m in the market for a new router setup. Are these any good?

I absolutely hate mine. I replaced my Time Capsule and AirPort Extremes with Orbi and they are garbage. The “mesh” between the base station and satellites is flaky at best. If you have even a slight hiccup in your internet connection, the whole system freaks out with devices and satellites coming back online - if the satellites even bother to come back online. I have tried mine with wired and wireless backhaul between the base and satellites but the connection quality still isn’t great not to mention that, for some reason, devices that are right next to a satellite with a strong signal will connect to the weakest signal at times. The Orbi app completely worthless unless you need to add a satellite and no amount of configuration makes anything any better. Once I have a few bucks laying around, I’m running away from these as fast as possible.

Yes I almost went with this one, but:
1)It was released only for the USA
2)It was out of stock
3)I believe it has a dumbed down firmware, as in the options are limited to make it as simple as possible to the average user. Not sure if it can do IP reservation, setting channels, separating bands, setting DNS, etc
4)Its a totally new product I was afraid to pay the early buyer price

Shows out of stock

Think I’m going to try the TP-Link Deco M9.
Edit: grabbed this one on Costco on sale: https://www.costco.com/tp-link-archer-ax11000-tri-band-wi-fi-6-router.product.100519717.html

The store had a big amount of stock.

I did a lot of research on AX devices - a lot. I'm not pushing you to switch back to an AC device for now, but the tl;dr on everything I read is that it may be best to upgrade to AX when devices for the wi-fi 6e standard become available later this year.
