Apple may have just released Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone 11 lineup, but there are plenty of people still using last year's devices. If you're an iPhone XS Max owner looking to boost your battery life, Amazon has just dropped the price of Apple's Smart Battery Case in black to $59, more than 50 percent off of Apple's $129 list price.

Note: MacRumors is an affiliate partner with Amazon. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps us keep the site running.

The case is currently listed as in stock, but supplies may run out quickly so be sure to take advantage of the deal while it's available.

For more deals, check out Amazon's discount on the new AirPods Pro and stay on top of our Deals Roundup and Black Friday Roundup as we hit the holiday shopping season.

Update Nov 23: The iPhone XS Max case has sold out, but Amazon now has the iPhone XS Smart Battery Case in white on sale at the same $59 price point.

Wow, I've been wanting to get this and boom..... Amazon comes thru. Ordered this and the AirPods Pro (also off retail) and used my Amex points.... what a great deal. I doubt black friday would be much cheaper.

Do these support through the case charging?

Worst Apple product I’ve ever owned. Stops charging reliably if you drop it once or twice. Happened to one and stopped working in a month, got it replaced under AppleCare, happened to the other and stopped working in 3 weeks. Gratefully amazon let me return past the return window.

I was considering buying a used one off eBay because the battery life has been dodgy lately. This is cheaper than some used listings on eBay lol. Ordered, can’t wait!

All of the smart battery cases from Apple had a ton of 1 star reviews for exactly this.

I’m on my second one. Thankfully it quit working within the 1 year warranty. Unfortunately, the replacement is already starting to sporadically stop charging after about 5 weeks.

I love the concept, but they have some major problems with making what seems like a simple accessory.

Stop charging wirelessly and/or lightning port?

Same here wanted the case for a long time but could never justify the Apple tax for it. $50? I’m in.

Sometimes it stops taking a charge from the lightning port.

Sometimes it is charged, but then won’t charge the phone - even though it shows up as connected.

Not one of these, you want one of the new ones. Your 11 will fit if you push hard and the buttons don't line up.
Thanks! I thought the XR and the 11 were the same size, just different features etc. But I suppose to start I didn't take into account the different camera shape.

Yea and they moved the volume buttons down some as well as made the new phones just a bit thicker making it very difficult to put in the older case. Best option is wait a bit until they start showing up on sale.

Love mine, works great on long trips, when I’m snowboarding, and daily commuting in and out of nyc.

Well, FWIW? Back when I had the first iPhone that supported these Apple battery cases, I'd tried just about all the major brands on the market that did something similar. Mophie's JuicePack, for example ... and many more. In every single case, the things were fairly fragile. I had charging connectors breaking loose inside the bottoms of the plastic shells and one that separated, with the whole back plate and electronics falling out of it. Others had problems with the phone securely attaching to the docking connector inside the case.

There are ALL amazingly poor in durability over time. The Apple version of the case was the ugliest looking but best integrated and best performing of all of them.

Thanks to both of you, I will be avoiding this cheap piece of junk then. I was seriously tempted to buy it, but if it’s that sensitive to drops and is that unreliable, then there’s no point in getting it at all.

When it works, it is great. It was awesome to have while traveling.

I’m about to warranty my second one in less than a year. Luckily, they have quit working at convenient times for me to get it replaced.

They don’t just fail completely at once. My ~5 week old replacement started messing up about 2 weeks ago. I can unplug the phone from the case and plug it back in to get it work again. It is kind of like when a lightning cable starts to fail. Usually, you can try plugging it in a few times and it will work.

I know right? This is a phone case and it’s supposed to be rugged and able to withstand abuses. That’s the point of using a bulky case on a phone!!

But no, it’s another badly designed, delicate product by Apple that’s going to break and stops working after just a few drops.

Oh wait! Apple could just have to sell another case to protect the smartcase.

iPhone smartcase protective case for $49? Available in black, white and green. Not too shabby. 😏

Just like those car bikinis protect your entire car from 45 mph impacts, this battery case should protect the phone from any impact you may cause. Do they market this case as impact protection or for extra battery life?
