AT&T this week is offering customers the chance to buy one iPhone and get another at no extra cost, as long as both are purchased on an AT&T Next installment plan with an eligible wireless line. iPhones eligible for the offer include: iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X, XR, XS, or XS Max (priced up to $1,449.99).

Note: MacRumors is an affiliate partner with AT&T. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps us keep the site running.

With the deal, if you buy one of these iPhones then AT&T will give you up to $750 in credits, which will cover the entire cost of an iPhone 8, 64GB iPhone 8 Plus, or 64GB iPhone XR. You can also choose to put the $750 credit towards a 256GB iPhone 8 Plus, 128GB or 512GB iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max.

The credit will start within three bill cycles, and AT&T will send catch-up credits once it starts. The credit will be applied monthly over the entire agreement term. This includes either AT&T Next for 30 months or AT&T Next Every Year for 24 months.

AT&T's offer ends on Sunday, March 31, so if you're interested head to the carrier's website to browse for a new iPhone. More deals and discounts can be found in our full Deals Roundup.

Costco Tmobile deal when available is still the best. Prepaid visa, pay off the phone, cancel the line and you are back where you started with about $500 in free stuff.

Been in the market for a couple iPhone XRs for my parents. Although we currently have AT&T service, buying the phones outright (with some trade-in devices) definitely seems like the route to go now since we plan on switching to Google Fi.

I'm trying to avoid my typical FOMO mentality with new phone deals, but "BOGO" tied to carrier rates is just too much to swallow now...

I hate when posts like these give free PR to the carriers for offering promos that have restrictive fine print. Nowhere in the MacRumors article does it mention the new line of service requirement.
I think the assumption is you're going to click on the link for the details. Which you'd kinda have to do to get to the deal.

Why would I need two phones ?
You probably don't but it might be beneficial to others with family members for instance.

In big bold font in the title it mentions "att next"

The problem I have with the bogo is the bogo credits are spread over 30 months.

That mean they automatically get the $20 plus (cost to add a new line) per month x 30 months. So att is guaranteed $600 in revenue plus their bogus $1.99 federal universal fee (non mandatory) per line

So that’s $660 guarantee revenue for att for new line. Plus the $40 att next upgrade/new line fee. So $700 guaranteed. Att basically loses nothing in the bogo promo.

AT&T is such a horrible company. They make constant mistakes on our bill, all of course mysteriously favor them rather than us. They intentionally lie about charging for services we canceled. We're presently tied to them from a previous Next BOGO offer we took advantage of but once that is done so are we with AT&T. I would think long and hard about tying yourselves to them for 30 months.

Wait, what? They’re doing this as a nice gesture? You mean, it’s not goodwill from ATT?
Of course they’re not “losing” anything, they get a new customer that will show up in their books and help increase the (artificial) value of the company and the stock. It’s all about gaining new customers from the competition.
By the way, you forgot to mention that any upgrade, modification to the line and the phone, and the customer will forfeit the rest of the credits… think about it, to get full credit you can’t upgrade your phone for more than 32 months, that’s nearly 3 years!!!
The morale of the story: Don’t EVER buy into these BOGO offers!

Yeah it is always get one free with a new line of service. I don't need another line of service, it is just me. I got tired of waiting for a deal (and some other things) and ended up just leaving AT&T for Mint Mobile which now I'm paying 1/3 as much. You can PM me and I'll send a referral link.

If you're already with AT&T and want a deal with out starting a new line, you need to connect with their Loyalty Department. 1-800-288-2020. Once you get a live person, verify you are speaking with the Loyalty Department, not Customer Service or anything else. The operator may want to document why you want to speak with the Loyalty Department, just let them know you want to talk about upgrading you current device. With the Loyalty Department, just explain you're a current customer and would like to upgrade your device. Be polite and indicate you don't want to pay full price for a device. I was able to get my wife's iPhone 8 a few months ago for $450 off of list. Naturally, YMMV, but I found that being calm and polite to the Loyalty Department went a long way.

I'm sure other carriers have something similar, so it pays to research a little.

AT&T Next is the carrier's monthly installment program. Without knowing that the promo requires a new line of service, you would think you could just upgrade your and a sibling's lines but only pay for one phone. Nope, you need to open a whole new line.

Dumb question (maybe) but can you add a new line and then cancel another so you net to no new lines? I literally just put an Xr on my account for my daughter at noon. My son could use a new phone too and doing it this way would reduce the cost to each significantly. My son doesn't care about his phone number so I could add a new acct (new phone#) for him and then cancel his other line. Seems to easy, so I'm sure it won't work, but hoping someone here will say otherwise!

The only deals these days for existing iPhone customers with post paid att and or verizon is during holiday season. $200-300 gift card promos.

But those gift card promos involve waking up at 5am to stand in line for the gift card and or 2-3 hour waits just to get the gift card.

Android deals for existing post paid customers are easier but iPhone deals are hard to get.

Att has had this deal pretty much since the phones have came out. It’s not new or special. The question is what is their deal going to be starting in April?

You can upgrade one phone. Add the new line. And cancel the other one. It’s dumb. But that is a thing. If you’ve been a customer you can upgrade the phone for a lower cost but you have to pay it up front and they want a 2 year commitment.

My expectations for any electronic device with rechargeable batteries is that they should be replaceable for a reasonable cost. I am happy to have these expectations so do not tell me otherwise.
Cool. You do that you thing. Meanwhile, I’d appreciate ananswer: what other manufacturers make true ear buds with user-replaceable batteries?

AirPods 2 fail the washing machine test
Guess you didn’t watch that second video.
