Why would I need two phones ?

You got a wife or kids on your plan? If so, being able to get a second phone at no extra cost is quite nice.

Of course AT&T won't let you use the second phone for an upgrade, only for a new line. If you are willing to get a new phone number (and are paid up on your current phone) you can just get a new line on your account and then go home and cancel the old second line.

Stupid to make a person jump through such silly hoops. You would think they would want to keep you locked in for another 30 months regardless if it were an upgrade or new service.

If you're already with AT&T and want a deal with out starting a new line, you need to connect with their Loyalty Department. 1-800-288-2020. Once you get a live person, verify you are speaking with the Loyalty Department, not Customer Service or anything else. The operator may want to document why you want to speak with the Loyalty Department, just let them know you want to talk about upgrading you current device. With the Loyalty Department, just explain you're a current customer and would like to upgrade your device. Be polite and indicate you don't want to pay full price for a device. I was able to get my wife's iPhone 8 a few months ago for $450 off of list. Naturally, YMMV, but I found that being calm and polite to the Loyalty Department went a long way.

I'm sure other carriers have something similar, so it pays to research a little.

+1 Got iPhone 450 off last month.

Cool. You do that you thing. Meanwhile, I’d appreciate ananswer: what other manufacturers make true ear buds with user-replaceable batteries?
I don't know if those others you list have buds where the batteries can be replaced. Remember, Galaxy Buds don't have "user replaceable" batteries with instructions in a manual. They have been built in a way that they can be readily disassembled and use a standard battery cell. Possibly Senheisser can be also. Their over ear phones can be, but is not detailed in the manual. Tech shops can replace batteries in products like these.
I would never buy a product that costs £275 if it is made non functional in a couple of years by the need for a battery.

Just called AT&T Loyalty. They offered me an Xr for $299 and an X for $449. Then they knocked my phone bill down by $45 / mo. Glad I participated in this thread. Thanks for the info!!!

Lets not forget to mention that $450 discount came with a 2 year contract.

I’ll wait until they offer $650 per phone on a trade-in to upgrade. No new lines available here.

I guess I’m waiting for IPhone XS II before I upgrade my 7+.

“with an eligible wireless line”

No no no! Very bad reporting! It doesn’t matter how many upgrade-eligible likes you have. You need to sign up for a NEW line to get this deal.

You’ve screwed up this same announcement before and now I’m wondering if it’s deliberate because you’re getting a kickback from AT&T. Either that, or you’re doing lazy or incompetent reporting.

Stop it.

Just left AT&T a few weeks ago, got the same deal AT&T is advertising and it worked for porting our two numbers from AT&T. Not to mention AT&T was going to charge us an upgrade fee on top of not getting the BOGO since they weren’t new lines. We picked up XS Max phones, bug on get the $750 in bill credits (which we are fine with). Verizon also gave us $200 Visa gift card per line for switching after 45 days of service.

So far Verizon has been very good for service. Hope it stays that way.

Fine print alert on these....free phone only done if you start a new line of service for it.

Spoke to T-Mobile today 4/1, they are offering the iPhone Xs for 700 with trade in of iPhone 7 (good condition) , 24 months billing., no need for new line activation.

However , please be cautious about add on upgrade fees & Shipping fees., as the agent told me that both would be removed if I placed my order online, went online to check but there is no option for the trade-in program as advertised.

The morale of the story: Don’t EVER buy into these BOGO offers!

Not true.

My wife and I were both upgrading to new iPhone XS's and were already with AT&T for 10+ years. We are planning to stay with AT&T. This is a no-brainer.

I got a new line, with an iPhone XS, my wife got an iPhone XS on her line. I cancelled my original line. Boom, free $750 over 30 months. No brainer.
