I bought a fake Milanese loop for $4 on Aliexpress for my gen 1 Apple Watch and I'm still using it, it's held up wonderfully over all my Watch upgrades. Still looks like new (after scrubbing years of dead skin out of it) and magnet and Watch attachment bits is as strong as ever.
Me too bro 😎 Series 0 actually. I have been given many compliments on it as well.

I was planning to upgrade from my AW5 this year then I found they no longer have Space Black. Very disappointed! And now saving $800

Apple has been making some really curious choices with pricing. At the usual price of the SS people would rather get the Ultra with better internals and exterior unless they specifically wanted the SS aesthetic. Their iPad release and price hike yesterday also seemed like a strange move 🤔
Not everyone wants to wear Tesla Cybertruck on their wrist...

It's interesting reading the comments because "incredibly overpriced" was my feeling since the series 4... Bought an open box stainless S7 during the amazon sale, so that took the sting out of things a bit, but $480 is what I think I ended up paying for it and $500 is what I got the brand new SS S3 for. Inflation and etc. I get it. But $800 for a watch that will likely run like a turd by 2027 just... hurts. I wish I liked wearing watches as just a timepiece because it would feel more like an investment thana depreciating asset. o_O

My personal opinion – I think this is becoming less of a sensible value proposition than ever.

I mean, from Apple's POV it makes sense as there are people willing to buy it.

But for us, as much as I want the better build quality of the SS model, I can't really justify spending that much money for something that has the same internals as the Alu model and that is going to be functionally useless in 3-4 years anyway. Kind of the same argument as the people who paid exorbitant prices to have the original gold watch that is now a brick.

If it's still going to be something that is only really smooth and useful for a maybe a handful of years at most, the only thing that is going to get me to invest that much money into the Apple Watch would be things that add value to it. For me, that is blood pressure monitoring and/or CGM. Which, at this point, seem like the nuclear fusion of the medical devices industry. Until that happens, I'm okay sticking it out with my SE.
Those of us that have the money for a model like that understand it's not just the functionality but the aesthetics of SS that also plays a factor. Easier to dress the watch up or down, having cellular built in for emergency calls is awesome too.

The watches don't suddenly stop working when they stop getting software updates too. They can be passed down or traded in too. No reason you couldn't keep one for 5-6 years, with a battery replacement or two.
