I always forget the AirPods 3 exist, because I vastly prefer the 2 (tap control, better fit, mics extend beyond a beanie).

I've had the third generation AirPods for almost two years and I'm rather disappointed with them. They're notably larger than the first and second generation models so they don't fit in my ears nearly as well, and shortly past the 18 month mark or so the bass response has dropped off dramatically on both of them (they sounded great when I first got them). Hopefully the next revision features a slightly better fitting shape for those of us who prefer open fit earbuds.

I hope we will see AirPod 4 sooner rather than later. I have generation 3 and would upgrade if they brought in better features.

I was pleased with the audio but I had the same fit issue. I stopped using them when the left one just lost volume. I cleaned it very well, reset them, yet it’s almost impossible to hear anything unless I adjust the audio balance to favor that side and crank the volume.

So until they update the AirPods line again I’m using a $60 pair of wireless earbuds off of Amazon called Soundpeats Capsule3 Pro. They don’t sound as good but are good enough at that price and added ANC and pass through.
