Tile missed the boat by (1) offering unattractive designs, (2) Tile Pro's battery is not rechargeable, (3) very few color choices, (4) poor app design, and (5) laughably overpriced subscription ($2.99/month).

Unfortunately the $29.99 pack which seems like is killer deal is their previous 2018 models that do not have replaceable batteries. Amazon is also matching their single 2020 mate tracker offer.

I think I may bite on this despite it being the 2018 model. I've owned 4 Tiles in total, but all of their batteries have died. For $29.99, it seems like a great deal to hold me over until Apple releases the AirTags.

Personal opportunity cost is being able to give my family the peace of mind of tracking their luggage on some upcoming trips.

My brother and I split a double pack of the new Tiles that came out last year. We each independently came to the conclusion that it is a lousy, glitchy product. Terrific idea but simply does not work as claimed. Complete waste of money.

Despite that experience, I would be interested in Apple's take on the same idea.

Been lugging a tile on my keys for over a year. Just not worth it when I lost my keys and the people that picked them up didn’t have a tile app, so they weren’t traceable. I only found them because they put out an email asking whose keys they were. Very limited usefulness like in your own house :/

Do you expect Apple‘s subscription to be more reasonably priced? I can‘t see offering the service for free. As for as colors go, what would you want to match? I always thought of these as a mostly out of sight product.

If you want a good deal on Tile then wait till Apple releases their version cause the sale will be even bigger.

If you treat Tile Premium subscription as an alternative to AppleCare+ service, it's actually not a bad value. $29.99/year for extending warranty of every Tiles in your household from 1- year to 3-year.

But if AppleCare+ is not something you would get with Apple's Tile-like product, I think it's a bad value. None of its features, (1) alert when you leave Tile behind, (2) 30-day location history, and (3) family sharing, strike me as something Apple would charge. If Apple is that petty and decides to offer a subscription plan, I think it will be bundled into paid iCloud storage plan, just like HomeKit Secure Video.

Regarding Tile's color, if you are in a household with multiple members, you will want each Tile used as a keychain to be easily distinguishable.

where is the usecase of this? I dont understand why it would be important to be able to find your bag or bicycle in bluetooth distance? And if its further away, you are relying on other people to walk past it and them having enabled to send tracking info on other people's tiles?

If someone could kindly elaborate on this, maybe i'm missing the point of being able to find something within 5 meters or so?

Is it if you forget your briefcase and you have your phone in your pocket then it gives you a ring? but what if you chose to leave it in your locked car then it also gives you an unnecessary ring?

If someone could shed some light on this for me please, i want to understand the niftyness of this. I was hoping i could keep one in my kids school bag but if i can only see it within BT distance it makes no sense to me.

thanks

Better they sell them as quick as possible. When Airtag is out, Tile is dead.
