Verizon this week is offering the 64GB iPhone SE (2020) for free when you sign up for a new line on a Verizon Unlimited plan. This offer is available only on Verizon's website and can't be acquired in stores.

With this deal, Verizon will give you $399.99 in promo credit applied to your account over 24 months. If you'd like the 128GB model you can get it for $5/month, and the 256GB model is down to $10/month.

Verizon has the iPhone SE in (Product)Red, White, and Black color options, and you can also get $20 taken off your $40 activation fee when purchasing the smartphone online. There's a free 2-day shipping estimate for most Verizon online orders.

I never understood these "add a new line" deals.

If you're an existing customer... shouldn't you already have the number of lines you need?

Mom, dad, two kids... are you gonna add a fifth line just to get a free phone?

I guess that phone isn't really free if you have to pay a monthly fee for another line.

Add a line also works when transferring service from another company - Free phone for switching.

Nah. I’d just pay outright for this phone for what Verizon wants for ‘adding a new line.’ $399 paying full price with no commitment isn’t really that much money without any lock-ins.

Also it’s worth noting that unlimited plans are expensive. This goes back to the days of subsidized phones. I’m still on a per GB plan and it would cost be $20 more a month to be unlimited. $20x24=$480 plus more if I keep my phone on unlimited.

With so many people working from home we hardly need unlimited anyways.

VZW just dropped my pre-paid 6GB plan to $25/month. I win the internet! Because unless for some reason you're standing in the middle of a vast arboreal forest 24/7 during the worst pandemic in modern times and need 24/7 cell service, you're doing it wrong.

wifi, people...wifi.

Everyone: flames, insults, you're a "looser," die, etc.

When it comes to the cellular companies, you can always be spending more.

Verizon will net a lot of schooling fish with this offer. The word free is irresistible to many of the fish.

No flames or insults, but I will say that I don't find wifi to be the answer to all of life's connectivity problems (at least in normal, non-pandemic times). Public wifi is very often a) much slower than LTE, b) not secure, c) both of the above. That said, 6GB for $25/month is an excellent deal.

I'll also note that this deal is far inferior to another deal Verizon is also currently offering - a free 11 Pro with the trade in of phones as old as an iPhone 6.

likewise with the GB plan, but I think we are in the minority. I can get away with it because I am on wifi 90% of the time and my car has LTE.

Best deals seem to be just switching to a new carrier with two of the lines you need. Assume a family of four. Then switch over one line when they offer a deal like this. And the other line when another deal arises.

Anyone know if this works for grandfathered unlimited plans or just their newest unlimited plans?

I was excited when I saw the first half of this headline, I thought I could finally get my mom a new phone! She's been telling me how much she doesn't want a new phone, but with a deal like this...! Then I finished reading the headline...

I've been with Verizon Wireless since it was Bell Atlantic in the 90s, what perks do loyal customers get?
