Anyone else wish Apple would beef up the ppi on the 7s? I'd like better screen resolution like every other phone on the market provides!!!

I am all for a sharp looking screen on a phone. However, given the small size of phones, there comes a point, when the human eye can only perceive so many pixels in a picture.

Yes but when I look at a picture on a Galaxy S7 or S8 and then on my 7 it's a but embarrassing. The difference is night and day.

As mentioned above, that might be more of an OLED vs LCD issue. Hence all the fuss about an OLED iPhone this year.

Isn't the ppi already supposed to be imperceptible to the human eye on a Retina display for iPhone? Would higher ppi really make a difference? How high do others have it?
It is only imperceptible if the display is at least 11 inches from your eyes. The Plus is only imperceptible if the display is at least 9 inches from your eyes. The new iPhone X is imperceptible if the display is at least 7 inches from your eyes.

The iPhone X pixel density need not go higher really.

As said by others, it's the LCD vs OLED difference you're likely seeing. Going from the 6S to 7+ I honestly can't tell a difference in screen quality due to the increase in pixel density

Ppi is the new megapixel. Unless you are using your phone with one of those VR goggles, higher ppi only hurts performance. Heck I even use Android devices with 720p and can't tell much of a difference with 1080p Android devices during normal use.

I recently changed from a 7 Plus to a 7 and I can definitely tell a difference. Especially in reading text, the 7 isn't as sharp and sometimes can even look fuzzy when compared to a 7 plus.

Oh just wait until people who order the iPhone X start getting their new devices and telling how awesome that OLED display with their 400+ ppi screens are!

But they are... the next step is to increase it on other devices, like 326ppi on iPads and higher PPIs on Macs, although I must admit it’s not as needed on there. The increase on iPad would be great for games, where you can still make out the pixel outline of objects in certain games. But the iPhone increase will also be great for VR/AR.

i saw a difference when i switched from the S7 to the iphone 7 after 6 months of use.

the first time i started my iphone 7 and went through the setup process, text seemed blurry to me..

but after like 10 minutes my eyes got used to it and since i never used the s7 again, i never noticed it anymore.

I reckon for this, it's the GPU that needs to be faster. Quite likely that some games render at lower res or not doing anti-aliasing in order to achieve playable framerates.

Side note, Apple uses the best LCD display panels and has them tuned just right. I always thought highly of their displays, even if it's not OLED.

Yeah, anti-aliasing (or better anti-aliasing) would fix it for most cases, but as you say others I guess are running at a lower resolution. I suppose supporting older hardware (or not taking advantage of new hardware) could be a part of it.

Which current android phones have "1080p" resolution?

I agree with OP. I can also notice the difference between 7 and 7plus. That was one of the things I was looking forward to going from the 6 to 7plus. Of course there comes a point where ppi is high enough to no longer notice the pixels. But the 326ppi is not there, at least for me and others.

I completely agree. That was one of the things I missed about the plus.
