Hi Steve,
This goes out to everyone.

Dear Jerks @ Apple,
Did the overlords at ATT tell you that you couldn't give 2g iphones MMS because it would push their already clogged network to the breaking point? Or was it sheerly a profit point for you? If I can play racing games I think my phone might be able to deal with MMS.

How could a 1st gen iphone not be listed in the system requirements to run mms? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3573

How much crack are you smoking in Cupertino? Why exactly isn't this phone MMS compatible? It seemed to work just fine after applying a simple patch when I was running 3.0. Do you really need to sell that many phones?

I am an American that doesn't need a new phone every year. I use it until it breaks. I know that you find this very unusual for an American. I know that you prefer a more rapid cyclic consumption from your "fans" but not all of us work that way. It would be nice if you could continue to support your products which have not reached their End Of Life.

If you really are a "Green" Company as you have touted on our website. Do those of us a favor and enable MMS for old phones. They are still working. We have no reason to purchase more junk. The fact that you chose not to enable a feature on a device that can handle it appropriately shows what a bunch of Jerks you really are.

Hugs,
xxxx

first: take a deep breath

ok,

it's their decision, and if they don't want to enable it, they don't have to. and not to sound spoiled or elitist, but this wouldn't happen if u upgraded to a 3G

You make some good points.

However, you sound like a seven year old whose parents won't let him spend the night at his friend's house.

I'm sure Steve Jobs' secretary's secretary will read the first line and file this into the appropriate round file cabinet.

Dude, your phone is 2+ years old. How long do you expect apple to support old hardware? Get a grip and get a 3GS if you want MMS so bad

the OP is right - there's no earthly reason for not putting MMS on the 2G. That said, the tone of the email leaves a lot to be desired.

I have to agree too.. the iphone might be 2+ years old, but other phones have had mms for a LONG time, and if you think about it.. outside of smart phones, many people have kept a phone for many years and the technology is basically the same.

Look at the razor. Its the same phone it was when it came out...

Normally I'd agree, but considering MMS has been around for years before first iPhone. I think it's kind of weird to be two years late on a feature that is pretty much standard, and label it as incompatible.

If MMS was just invented this year it'd make sense.

To the OP your post made a lot of sense in some parts but your childishness killed it, not that I think your complaint will make a difference either way.

Sure other phones had MMS for a while back (and why it took so long, I have no idea), but no one bought an iPhone 1G with any promises of ever seeing it. Upgrade or stop whining.

I bought a two seater sofa (couch for you americans) yesterday, it was a 2 seater.

I expect my furniture company to upgrade the missing 3 seater 'feature' when it's available for free. Perhaps even a small fee.

What some people on here expect of Apple is totally beyond me.

You bought the 2G iphone as is, with the features as is.

If you want extra features, whether standard or not, then upgrade to 3G or 3GS and pay the price.

Stop moaning about great expectations!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Why would you ever want to attract bees?

Stay away from me, bees.

You guys are totally missing the point.. its more like this

You buy a new car back in 2006, and you love the car - it has a car stereo, but no ability to play music through it. Then, in 2008, the car manufacturer decides that they really should enable these stereos because, well, all other stereos can play music - so theirs should too.. But they decide to ONLY allow cars that are 2008 and newer to get this ability, even though ALL cars from this manufacturer HAVE a stereo, it just doesnt work

What you are all failing to see is that 3G owners are NOT asking for new hardware.. what they are asking for would not cost the manufacturers any more "product" just features that cost the manufacturer nothing..

its not Apple. Its definitely got to be ATT.. and its completely ridiculous

Call a spade a spade and ATT/Apple shoudl come out and say "We want to keep this feature from original iphone owners to make them buy a new phone" because THAT is what is happening.. nothing more, nothing less.

Good analogy lindsayanng. Even Microsoft gave old Zune owners the lastest features through a software update.

because its old hardware that apple doesn't care about anymore
Whether this matters depends on how the source code is done. Did Apple have to purposefully remove it? Are there compiler directives that skip the MMS code when compiling for a 2G? Did someone have to test that it doesn't add MMS on a 2G? If so, the "it's old hardware, upgrade" is meaningless tripe. It would take longer than 3G but it would work and work as well as billions of other phones that support MMS.

The other thing I think is peculiar is that AT&T won't let Slingplayer work over 3G because of the network load but doesn't support MMS over wifi, sending or receiving.

What an absolute pathetic sounding email. You come across as a spoiled little brat, I also don't take too kindly for bashing America and it's citizens even though you live here.

even though the tone of the email should seriously be adjusted, the OP makes some great points about being "green" and reasonings why apple/att should enable it..

Chances are an email like THIS will get trashed, but a more well written one, where you site how many cell phones a year are thrown away will make a much larger impact.

No! Ding Dong, wrong!!

I NEVER post here but after reading this post I had too.

To everybody who is bashing this guy; shut the **** up. You are flaming a guy for making a totally valid argument. The original iPhone can play music, games, videos, and surf the ****ing internet. It should be able to send a picture message since almost every piece of **** flip phone can (example: motorola razr. That phone is ANCIENT).

If a piece of hardware is fully capable of doing something through a simple software update, choosing to only enable it on certain models is a scam. Most original iphone owners paid anywhere up to 500-600 dollars on their phones. They have every right to be able to SEND A PICTURE....

No! Ding Dong, wrong!! YOU PAID for a phone with x features, now it only has x features at that time of purchase.

No company is obligated in any shape or form to give you additional features.

If you want additional features, upgrade, and pay the price. Simple really.
