Are there any "must haves" when it comes to the Pro? I'm a grad student and will be using it a lot on my clinical rotations for reading PDF copies of my books. Besides a PDF editor, what are some of the best apps?

Thanks!

Depends on exactly what you need, look up App Store.
Personally,I would start with installing apps for photo editing and printer drivers, but for PDF,I would go for a decent PDF reader as a complement to the editor.

Pages
Numbers
Keynote
Spotify
Amazon Vídeo (if you have prime)
Something to unzip files (I've been using GoodReader)

Apart from those anything that helps you do what you do with your iPad.

Pages, numbers and keynote are of course installed first,as it is apples own document apps.
I did a second thought, why not installing Lightroom and google snapseed too? Most people take photos,so a photo editor is always useful.

Apart from the ones I mentioned above I also use...

Calculator
Weather
XE (for currency conversion)
Translator (google)
A couple of alternatives to Safari (Firefox, chrome, etc)
Google Maps
Kayak (flights, booking and tracking)

It all depends on what you use the iPad for.

Thanks! I've got the normal 2017 iPad now and actually didn't have any of these on here. I'm a Physical Therapy student so using it for school related and note taking/highlighting is my main use, currently other than just for recreational use.

You are welcome, happy to hear some of those apps might be useful to you.
