I just read somewhere that Qualcomm claims to have engineered a finger scanning tech that will recognize the user through display glass, even under water.

If true, it could be the technology that brings back Touch ID in a big way. Or maybe the reason Apple went with Face ID is precisely because Qualcomm solved the issue first and they didn’t want to be tied to Qualcomm with yet another patent issue. Who knows.

I hope samsung gets the touch ID under the screen in the S9 and others follow suit, facial recog sux right now... your hands are already on the phone so why not use your fingerprint

I think it is *highly* likely that TouchID is essentially dead after the 8/8+. Has Apple ever brought back a bit of tech after removing it?

TouchID is not obsolete tech.
